I usually don’t leave reviews but I just saw the most heinous behavior of customers I’ve ever witnessed in my years working in the food industry and I just KNOW they’re gonna come leave a nasty review and I want to get ahead of them- first of all, I’ve been coming to Pho Saigon for a long time and eat here frequently because it is near my work. The service is always prompt, friendly and helpful, and I think it is a family operation because it is almost always the same staff. The food is fantastic. The pho and vermicelli bowls are my favorite, and the tea is delicious too. Now on to what I witnessed today… three ladies sat at a table across from us and got fried rice. They let it sit on the table for many minutes before eating, and then had the audacity to complain to the staff (in a very rude and entitled manner) that the food was cold. Three members of the staff came and were trying to understand what this lady wanted, because she wouldn’t let them take it away despite her complaints. She repeatedly said “don’t touch my food!!” even tho she apparently was not satisfied with it. Two of the three women then left the restaurant for atleast 15 minutes and left the food on the table. The owner came by and cleared the plates, to which the third lady said nothing. The other two then came back and started berating the owner for removing their food. The owner explained that the kitchen was remaking it since they didn’t like it the first time. For some godforsaken reason, this enraged the little Karen and she repeated “I told you not to touch my food!!”, seemingly incapable of being placated despite the best efforts of the calm and respectful owner. Eventually the exchange became more heated as the owner was trying her best to figure out wth these ladies wanted as they flip flopped between telling her they didn’t want food anymore, but they wanted their old food, and that they were going to leave, which the owner eagerly encouraged, but then they didn’t budge and kept throwing a fit, repeatedly shrilling “you can’t talk to a customer like that!!”. Mind you, it seemed the owner had zero intention of even charging them for the food, even after remaking it. I couldn’t take any more and piped up that the owner was just trying to help them and they were being unreasonable, and they then started yelling at me to shut up. At that point we had paid and were leaving, and I encouraged the women to do the same. I dread to think what happened after I left because it seemed they were set on making the poor owners life worse with no intention of leaving or listening to reason. All this goes to say- if you see a nasty review after this one, don’t believe a damn...
Read moreUpdate: this was only my experiences from visits more than 2 months ago. This is a late review. They apparently changed this policy so that's great but this review is for my experiences. Hopefully whoever is reading has smooth experience enjoying their good food.
Months ago I noticed that numbers were slightly off on the receipt that only said total amount i paid, and it was not itemized so there was no way of getting any explanations. When I paid, the casher merely called out the total after tax. The next time I visited I asked why the total is different from my expectation. They mumbled something about prices going up and how they put signs (was not on my table). I read the notice and it said due to the pandemic, menu prices can vary. It's understandable but it was not clear. I would've appreciated it stating how it's being charged and how much. Or the server could've told us when we order or when we pay instead of just calling out total after tax and extra charge. Miscommunication? More like no communication. No one mentioned about this in my visits until I asked. When I brought it up to the cashier they just stood there and with people waiting around me I felt like I'm a complainer so I paid and left. I haven't been back since.
You might say it's not a big deal but this practice was being carried out for months that I visited. How many people did you have "miscommunication"? And how much extra dollars did you gather in that period? Kudos for you that you changed this and moved to raise the menu prices because that's more transparent on what the customers are paying for.
This used to be my go to place for pho and they have good food and great price hence the 3 stars. I just resent that they weren't transparent and it gave me negative experiences. I'm happy for you that you changed this, but just because you changed it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Original: They charge extra money without telling you up front. If you need extra help due to the pandemic then raise the price on the menu or explain to the customers up front or any other method that's more clear. Secretly raising the total is just too...
Read moreI ordered beef stew over the phone and requested with no onions and cilantro. I drove all the way from work to downtown for 20mins just to pick up my food and I am really craving for vietnamese food. When i got there, i asked the lady on this photo who took my payment if they have disposable bowl where i can put my noodles since i’m taking the food and we don’t have bowl at work, she said they don’t have, i understand so that’s fine. I told her that i’m going to eat my noodles there instead of taking it out because we don’t have a bowl at work. She gave a nightmare reaction she talked on her language which i didn’t understand, rolled her eyes and went inside the kitchen. I sat down and waited for my food. Finally, it came with tons of onions and cilantro (which i requested not to put any). I didn’t complain, i removed all the onions and cilantro for 10mins. While i’m eating, i found this WHITE HAIR on my noodles, as much as i am starving and craving for vietnamese beef stew, i took a picture of it and went to the counter, i asked for a copy of my receipt and told the same lady that i found this hair. Instead of apologizing, she told me to go and leave. Without saying sorry of her bad customer service and disgusting object on my food, she refunded my money and she told me if something will happen to me they refunded my money already. WORST experience if i could give them 0 star i would, they’re not even sorry about what happened. Ma’am, if you are the owner of this restaurant, make sure that your food is safe to eat and obviously customer service is also an important factor on this business, have the nerve to give that to your customers. GO (with hand action that i should leave after seeing the hair on my noodles). Heartbreaking experience from PHO SAIGON in downtown Salt Lake. Never Again. I’m warning all the people in SLC if you’re starving and craving for vietnamese food i think there’s a lot of good restaurants out there, sadly i found this...
