Today I was invited to this place, where I had heard good things, so I arrived with an open mind and great expectations, but I was very disappointed, we were a group of 9 people, first of all there was no way to sit down together, this can be understood, since it is a small restaurant, second, you could not order all the things on the menu, only breakfast. This is a bit understandable, I suggest that the menu be divided, and not put together or that two different menus be used so as not to confuse, after they sat us down it took time for the arrivals to arrive, and that they take your order in advance, and they didn't arrive on time, it was random, then the food came, "late"! and even worse, also at the wrong time, half of the group of us was already eating and the other, we only saw them eat, and I remind you that previously they had taken the order from us all together, finally what I ordered arrived, some eggs rancheros, that took more than half an hour to arrive, apart from the fact that the food was cold, bland, more seasoned it had that sour taste that remained on the palate, my partner who was next to me asked me if it had salt, because his omelet was bland, so I asked the others how their food was, some of my colleagues had already finished their food because it arrived earlier and one of them commented that he had asked for salt, a while ago from the waitress and that it never arrived , as well as some glasses of water and a side of avocado, others like me complained that the coffee is too sweet, and the waitress told us that it was previously prepared with piloncillo and other spices, for in particular it was very sweet i had to tell him go with milk and still felt that cloying sweet taste, because of the bad service and that the water we asked for, the salt and the wait never arrived, apart from the fact that it is a little expensive we do not leave a tip, and personally I never return to this place, although it is very popular for other people, my experience here in Cheve went...
Read moreThis review is long overdue! Our first visit to La Cheve was Jan 2022 and we have been back 5x because we love EVERYTHING about it. As some may have mentioned when it is busy or at capacity you wait in line to place order and get seated. It is in the old Adobe building which may not be built for some of us tall folks but their staff reminds you often about the doorways which we always appreciate! Speaking of the staff - they are just so lovely, kind and helpful. They really do make you feel like 'fam', while providing the best service. I love all the touches of charm here, the dishes, the mugs, the glasses, the tables/chairs, the plants and even the decor in the bathrooms. I just love the atmosphere. Now, let's talk about the food... We have ordered: *Asada with eggs - loooove the jalapeno and cheese biscuits!! *Chile Verde Benedicto - my husband's favorite, he always shares a few bites with me because it's so good! *Red Chilaquiles - my favorite, you can't go wrong with these! *Tostaditas special - the carne asada and salsa were delicioso! *a variety of their bakery items - we try something new every time and are always happy. Everything is made from scratch - from their English muffins to the conchas and everything in between. *Drinks - their horchata zapateado, Mama Chole, Hot Chocolate and Michelada - it's so nice to sit on the patio with one of these drinks in hand. Hubby has also bought a few beers to take home as they brew their own. As you can tell I definitely recommend La Cheve when you have the opportunity to visit. My best advice would be to get there early as there is little to no line. The later it gets the longer the line can get and parking is also tough. Bright side - they take drink orders to pass the time while waiting in line. All in all - I hope you love it just as...
Read moreIf there is ONE THING you HAVE to know about this place, it's that the wait is ridiculously lengthy. Would not recommend if you have impatient, elderly or small children in your group.
We got in line on a Saturday morning at 11am, we got to the ordering station at 12:45pm and finally got our food at around 1:15pm.
We had children and an elderly person in our group, we were all there and in line by 11am with a plan for brunch. By the time we ate 2 hours and 15 minutes later, the kids were cranky and the great grandmother we were celebrating was starving.
La Cheve is currently trending on tiktok. Great spot for pics and anyone with FOMO. Their dessert and drinks are fun, and you can order their $15 trendy drinks on the app and they will bring them to you in line to keep you stoked about waiting in line for 2 more hours.
The food: Mediocre at best. I had the Bistek con Nopales; my flank steak was overcooked and dry and there should've been more Nopales as it was part of the dish name. There were more frijoles y arroz than nopales. Underwhelming.
BF got their Independence Day "potato and cheese enchiladas" so clearly, you think traditional "pure de papa con queso" enchiladas, right?? Nah. Country potato mix and cheese tucked in a tortilla, threw some thick flavorless enchilada sauce and called it a special.
Would I come here again?? For the wait alone, absolutely not. For the food? Nah. Ambience? Not worth either...
