Curious if we had time to order an appetizer at the bar at 6:50 for a 7:00 reservation (we checked with the very nice hostess that a 7:10 seating would not be disruptive), Carson, our bartender, assured us this would not be a problem, so we ordered the bao buns.
By 7:10, with no bao in sight, I asked Carson to split the buns off the check and have them transferred to our table; I'd pay the rest. Carson then stated flatly that he's not allowed to transfer a food item ordered through him, but served at the table; this turned out to be nothing more than a lie told to my face; this way he could keep the sales on something he misinformed me about, looking out, not for me nor the restaurant, but for #1, Carson. I went ahead and payed and tipped 22% and left, not wanting my evening tainted by fighting with a dishonest bartender. I should have fought that fight, as the evening got even worse immediately on being sat at my table.
Waiting at the table for our buns, I asked our server, Marko, to look into our missing appetizer. He went away. 5-10 minutes later, he returned asking for my receipt; apparently, management required that I prove with physical evidence that I was telling the truth, which makes a kind of sense, given Carsons relationship with telling the truth, but is completely rude, not to mention unnecessary as any half-competent manager can check for themselves in the POS; the manager would have not to be lazy, too, so maybe that was the catch.
Marko then re-ordered our buns, and then said the house would buy them for us, and take them off our table check, something he thought was a nice thing to do. I reminded him that I had already paid for the buns at the bar, tipping the liar, Carson, and all he was doing was not double charging me; this fact eventually sank-in.
58 minutes after ordering the buns, after being lied to, ignored and having my honesty and honor be questioned to my face by PJK Neighborhood Chinese Restaurant management and staff, we finally got our buns.
Neither manager, neither Daniel nor Julia, did anything to indicate that this behavior was anything other than very acceptable PJK Neighborhood Chinese Restaurant service standards, offering no apology, nothing; avoiding the problem all together, I never even saw either of them, and had to get their names from the hostess.
PJK Neighborhood Chinese Restaurant service standards: rude, late, forgetful, dishonest and wholly unapologetic for all that awfulness
The food tasted good, what you got for the price, everything else was awful.
Shiso cocktail had big, beautiful shiso leaf on top; there was no other shiso flavor involved, so, you options are, don't taste shiso in your shiso drink. Eat the whole leaf in one go. Grab the leaf with your hand, try to eat a little piece, put the rest back, wipe your hand, then take a sip of the cocktail.
Tuna over baked rice is a good concept, but for $15-$16 dollars for a total of what can't be more than 1.0 oz of tuna over rice, feels like I'm being stolen from.
I ordered the fried prawns. When the food runner (busser?) Came to the table with "shrimp" and no one ordered shrimp, there was confusion. When I said I ordered prawns, she said that she had shrimp. Yes, she had my prawn dish.
Seriously, Marko was the only professional I encountered, and I'm counting both the on-duty managers who dutifully ignored me, my issues, and their lying and stealing staff.
The phrase "Hot Mess" leaps to mind as I think back on my experience at PJK Neighborhood Chinese Restaurant.
As their restaurant was packed, there is no reason to believe they will bother to adjust their amateurish and horrendous service standards.
Do you self a favor, don't take the risk, go somewhere else...at least wait a year to let them learn how to do everything it takes to run a restaurant well, because they failed on every checkbox, every standard of good service, and most food and drink marks of excellence.
There new, they still might get it, but let them learn on all the other hapless guests that unknowingly walk into their...
Read morePersonal opinions below …. From a true visit … decide for yourself … seems like it’s a good place for some !!
The blonde “ head hostess “ was slightly rude (maybe only my take ) when trying to find my reservation, on PKS OWN SYSTEM THAT HAD BEEN TEXTING ME REGULARLY …. The actual hostess was nice . The bus woman was very nice and took our extra sets of silverware away and said she hoped we had a great dinner . Our server was very good .
The duck was awesome… the Mongolian beef , ordered with no mushrooms, arrived after the duck . Unfortunately, the Mongolian beef was full off mushrooms. So 25 minutes estimated after my wife’s duck arrived , I received my Mongolian beef .
My wife is Asian and we eat at many Asian restaurants, as well as, my wife is a very good Asian cook …. The Mongolian beef was almost like soup, soaked in thick sweet ABC type soy sauce . It was very overpowering . I’m doubting any Asian chefs in the house . But that’s just a guess … at any rate … the Mongolian beef was very very heavily sauced and very salty and, in my opinion, no flavor profile at all .. just hoisin / sweet soy sauce or similar , very heavily based.. it was like Eating the sauce , not the beef … the sauce tasted like it had been rendered down for a long time ….. it was almost like a syrup or molasses and beef but you can’t taste the beef through the syrup sauce ..
We had the duck for two and the Mongolian beef , one saki , one beer , one glass of wine …
The bill was $178 plus tip $228 … (25% before tax ) approx
We are not wealthy but full time Naples Residents and it was my wife’s birthday . So we splurged . Both of us are from the local food and beverage industry.
The interior of the restaurant is pretty nice .. it’s on 4th Ave south ..
Overall we had a good time. I doubt we will return . We Live , full time , 3 miles away .
I think PF chang’s is better food .. PK’s is reportedly the founder of P.F. Chang’s personal restaurant . ( opinion only )
I played it up as very good to my wife for her bday .. but we both know it was just OK food , accept the duck was very good $$$$…
unfortunately it’s very expensive ok Food and for that kind of Money it would be nice to be treated to GREAT FOOD !
We could have had king crab etc etc , if compared to the price . Although please note the price was not the issue , it was the quality of food / per $$$ that was the issue .
I think it’s a good restaurant for tourists. They come to town and eat and leave … then the next tourist will arrive and eat and leave . I doubt, with it’s current arrangement, any local repeat business will occur . If that’s PK’s business plan, then they are right on target .
These are my personal opinions and to each his own .. no facts here just my personal experience ….
I recommend to give it a try and leave your own feedback ..
Good bday night but personally I’m disappointed…
Thanks for your consideration ..opinion only please try and decide...
Read moreAs Chinese food devotees who travel from East Naples to North Naples (to eat at PF Chang's) at least twice a month for their Mongolian Beef, et. al ... we were anxiously awaiting the opening of PJK Neighborhood Chinese, much closer to where we live. We waited a week beyond the opening and went early in the evening. At 5 PM parking was a bit dicey, but we finally found the lot in back of the building, parked and walked around to the front. PJK's is very large inside with an open kitchen that can be viewed from the banquet seats across from it. It has a spacious bar and large outside patio with high top tables. The decor is "Industrial Chic" and it works. We looked at the menu ahead and had decided we were going to order the Mongolian Beef ($28) and the General TSO's Shrimp with Sweet Chili sauce ($24). We passed on the appetizers ... which seemed very pricey. Since we always have to ask the Manager at PF Chang's to get the Chef not to make overcooked, "shoe leather" Mongolian Beef, we asked our server ( Jelena) to inquire about not overcooking the beef and she was very accommodating. She did manage to get the Chef to make the beef in our Mongolian dish tender. However, we were surprised at the over use of mushrooms in this dish. It turned out that there were so many mushrooms, and much less beef than expected, that it caused the dish to have an overwhelming, "mushroomy taste". We would have preferred the Mongolian beef to be made with just beef and scallion shoots, as is normally done in many Chinese restaurants The unexpected highlight of our meal was the General TSO's Shrimp in Sweet Chili sauce. Not made with the typical red sweet chili sauce, this was done with a "blonde" sauce that was a bit less sweet, but very nice in taste. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. We could have done without the large green "poblano type" peppers in the dish, though. We were surprised when the two entrees were delivered to our table with only one small Chinese "tea cup size of rice" for each of us. We had to ask for another small tea cup size of rice, since we ordered two entrees. The runner who brought out our entrees seemed perplexed when we asked for more rice? Based on having one good entree, we will try PJK's again in the near future, but not order Mongolian "Mushroom" Beef...
