Island Vibes — Restaurant in Nashville-Davidson

We walked in and the girl sitting behind the counter said nothing. She just looked at us like she was wondering why we were there. We ordered the large oxtail plate for $23.50 and received a small cup of oxtails and a separate plate with flavorless rice and cabbage. The rude girl at the front pointed to a large take out container on the wall to show what a large oxtail plate looked like but when we received the plate, the oxtails were in a small cup with a lid and only rice and cabbage were on the plate. It was very misleading and dishonest. We also ordered the jerk chicken and had to pay an extra $1.50 to substitute rice for Mac n cheese. The Mac n cheese was old, dry and cold. When I asked about it the rude girl behind the counter said "well what do you want me to to do about it". In the middle of the conversation she also answered the phone and talked to a boy about dominos. She never said excuse me or I'm sorry or anything that would make a customer believe that she actually gave a care. Her attitude alone was horrible. She was wearing open sandals behind the counter with the food and in the kitchen, no serving gloves and not even a hello when we walked into the place. Her cell phone was much more important to her than our business as she checked it several times in the middle of our order. The tables inside and outside were dirty and sticky yet the girl inside had time to play on her cell phone while sittinv behind the counter, not greeting customers, not saying 'how can i help you' or 'what would you like'. Her attitude and disposition were so ugly and uninviting that it was hard not to ask hwr what her problem was. We have been here several times and the customer service is always lacking but now the food quality and quantity are steadily declining while the prices increase. We felt robbed and taken advantage of. Anyone saying this food is delicious must have visited years ago or does not know jamaican food at all. There are much better places in this city to spend over...

We recently ordered from Island Vibes using the UberEats app when it became available for delivery to our house. We originally looked to see if there was a Jamaican Restaurant available and thought we would give this a try since we had been to Jamaica Way and Kool Runnings before. Having moved to Nashville from South Florida where Jamaican and West Indian food is abundant we typically are hard to impress. We were in for a treat.

I ordered the Ox Tail that comes with Rice and Peas, Plantains and Cabbage. I was amazed at the size of the portions I received and the food was cooked and seasoned to perfection. I actually could not eat the entire plate and had a healthy portion left for lunch the following day. The Ox Tail was tender and falling off the bone while still being juicy and flavored well. The Rice and Peas were cooked perfect and not dry. The Plantains were hot and cooked well without being too sweet like you find at some places outside of south Florida. The cooked cabbage was seasoned well and good. The cost of my dinner plate through UberEats was $14.00 which is typical for and Ox Tail dinner in this area among other locations.

My wife and son ordered the Jerk Chicken which also came with Rice and Peas, Plantains and Cabbage. Again, the portion size was much more than expected with plenty of chicken to make a satisfying dinner and a nice lunch entree the next day. I tasted the chicken and the spice was amazing, just the right amount of heat and extremely delicious. My wife said it was one of the best plates of Jerk Chicken she has eaten and that is saying a lot since we just left Fort Lauderdale two weeks ago and ate at Donna's Caribbean Restaurant on University in Lauderhill.

We loved both of our meals and are looking forward to trying more of the menu items they have and dining in. Definitely an unexpected treat here...

Edit: I had to lower my rating bc the meal they gave me today was outrageous. I ordered a veggie rotti. My coworker picked up the meal, and when I opened it, most of the meal was the cabbage side that they typically give you and my main meal was the side, you can see in the photo I posted with the cabbage and chickpeas. I was so mad that someone thought this was okay to hand out that I didn't even finish eating my food. I called the restaurant to let them know what happened and all they offered was a side of the chickpeas that was supposed to be my meal. I may just stop going there. I'm so disappointed. Their food tastes it good, it just they shouldn't do that to anyone's meal especially when we pay quite a bit for it. You can read my more positive review below. I think I'll just have the Jamaican restaurant in La Vergne moving forward.

Food here is so tasty! I've gotten food from here a few times. Not being a huge meat eater, they definitely had some vegetarian/vegan/seafood options. I am a huge fan of their veggie chucks. It is sooo good, my only suggestion is for them to add some more fresh veggies in it bc it's mainly the veggie chunk (meat imitation). I would still get it again! I also really enjoyed the veggie rotti! Also the jerk meat meals are really good. In summary, you can't go wrong with anything you order there. Beware Jamaican food is for those who love spices and flavor, nothing is bland or...
