This place is called playdate, has a huge slide in the back, and it located in a very family focused neighborhood. We were there with our friends who also have children and the kids were very well behaved while there and were using the slide just like all the other kids that were there we’re doing. I would say 75% of the clientele that was there on a Sunday afternoon were families. However when we were there, the GM told us that it is not a kid friendly place and they are not encouraging families to go there. We could not believe what we were hearing. And he told us he encouraged us to come back without our kids for a date night. Like for real? You legit are telling us that families aren’t welcome in your restaurant that has a slide in the backyard in 12 south? Where it’s majority single-family homes and not apartments with young 20-year-olds? It just felt so odd and rude and I really hope they reevaluate how they’re going about welcoming people from the neighborhood to their business. If they want it to be for 21+ then they need to set an age requirement. I’ve never in my life heard of a restaurant saying not to bring kids - unless it was like a five star tasting menu restaurant. The place is even called playdate! They should call it Sunday Funday if they want to send a message that it’s not...
Read moreUpdate: I reached out to the email they asked to give them a chance (not a fan of going back to a place that made me sick, but they are new so things happen). Well Daria Grattan believes getting sick from their food is me “not liking our chicken”. When I pointed out it wasn’t about not liking it but rather getting sick from their chicken she decided she had done enough lip service and stopped responding. Don’t give this place your money they are another brand wanting to move into a hot city but doesn’t care about their customers, food safety, or the community. The only fun about this place is found in the name, beware of this establishment.
WARNING! Do your body a favor and don’t eat the chicken wings. Idk if it’s the chicken they use or the lack of cooking, but rubbery and gross. The last one I picked up to consider trying to eat looked more like a baked potato skin than chicken. Obviously frozen junk with low quality. I got home from the restaurant sick and it lasted into the next day. As one to normally finish an order of chicken wings I got maybe half way or a wing over and just let the rest be...
Read moreI read about this recently and checked it out with some friends on the weekend. It was packed, and understandably so. Aside from the nice weather the space is very inviting, with outdoor seating in front and back, with an outdoor bar in back. I'll come back often.
We only ordered the whipped feta and shrimp skewers, but both were very good, very fresh, perfectly seasoned. The kitchen is doing things right. Drinks were also tasty and well made. Reasonably priced as well, $13 for all cocktails.
The only ding on the experience is that it seemed like the wait staff were inexperienced or still figuring things out. There seemed to be a lot of confusion. Several times we saw staff that didn't know what table a food item was to go to, and we were asked more than once what we had ordered or had the wrong items brought to our table.
But overall, this is an excellent addition to the 12 South neighborhood and well worth checking out. I found it to be a very relaxing, neighborly spot. Great for a sunny afternoon with friends. And...
