On Saturday, August 10th, I took my family to a place that we always enjoy. After my son's football and basketball game, my family was extremely hungry after a hot, long day. We got to steamboys and I was super excited to see the spiral cucumber salad because my son and I love cucumbers and I wanted something cool to eat. Everyone food came out first and the salad was the last thing to come to the table. Which makes since now and I'll get that that shortly. When I received the salad, it was not at all spiral. It was literally a bowl full of sliced up cucumbers with dressing on top. My son immediately dived in because he was so hungry and didn't want any more bao. By this point, it was too late to take it back. I was disappointed but I knew when I got the check I was going to make mention about the false advertisement. When another waitress came, I asked for the check. I guess the one who initially took our order and bragged how amazing the spiral cucumber salad was on break. I informed her that the salad wasn't sprial at all and I followed her face as she looked at the half empty bowl. Before I could finish, she said "I'll be back" and went to converse with the waitress that originally took our order. She came back and said that since you ate your salad we can't give you your money back. I chuckle to this young waitress because she if she would've let me finish my statement she would've understood what I was complaining about. I never asked for a refund. I simply stated that the spiral cucumber salad that was presented to me does NOT match the picture and that was false advertisement. And she had the audacity to say, that's how the chef makes it. At that point, i literally was upset. And I reminded her again that her answer was unacceptable because I paying for an experience and if the chef did not know how to create a spiral cut then I would've prefer them letting me know instead of presenting me with something that the cook is not trained to do. Which leads me to my previous statement as to why my salad was the last thing to come to the table. The chef didn't have a clue or too lazy, whatever was the reason, it wasn't what was displayed. I never made an issue about getting a refund because my son started eating it not knowing/caring what the presentation looks like. Again, my 12 year old loves cumcumbers. He was starving and I wasn't going to snatch my plate from a kid who had two victories and he chose where he wanted to have a celebratory meal every Saturday and that particular weekend he picked Steamboys. So as a parent, I allowed my son to have whatever he wanted that evening because he deserved it. My family orders from here all the time...like 2 to 4 times a month, but unfortunately after that day, was my last time going to steam...
Read moreMy family and I were passing by Nashville and wanted to have something Chinese while there. I was excited to try this place given the positive reviews. Perhaps we are a bit biased towards our own Chinese ethnicity, so please take my review with a grain of salt.
My wife and I both lived in NYC and Houston for many years and have a certain level of expectation when it comes to beef noodle soup and steamed bao. While the flavor was there for the juicy pork seared bao, it was extremely overpriced. Two small baos, lightly seared on each side, and served with a scoop of LaoGanMa chili, is simply ridiculous for the price we paid of $6.50. We also ordered two large beef shank noodle soups, priced at $13 each. The broth and noodle were acceptable - though the noodles were on the skimpy side - but the sliced beef shanks were tough and chewy, clearly not cooked to the proper consistency that beef shanks should be in a noodle soup. Proper preparation of beef shank in noodle soup requires slow braising; something that clearly wasn't there.
In addition to the two large bowls of soup, we also ordered soup dumplings for our kids. At $8.50 for 5 pieces, I'd have expect the dumplings to be out of this world. Instead, they tasted just like the frozen ones you'd be able to purchase at any Asian grocery store.
I did like the vibe of this place, as it is modern and clean. The food they serve however, simply does not match the price they charge. Their menu is extremely limited and their prices are outrageous for the given quality and quantity. Nashville deserves better options. For all newcomers looking to try this place out, don't be fooled by the positive reviews. Save your money and go someplace else. This place is pompous with super inflated prices that no one should have to pay for the mediocre...
Read moreI’ve came to this location a few times before. Dumplings are always good, and I really love that they offer an all you can eat dumpling day. However, service is always pretty bad here. I still love the food so I have always taking the bad service with a grain of salt. Tonight, however, I could not hardly even place an order. It took around 20 minutes just to be greeted, and then food took a lot longer than usual to come out. I’ve learned that this can be a bit of the norm at this location though, so I tried to still enjoy my time. We have to call our waitress back over just to try and order our second round of dumplings since we were doing the all you can eat. She proceeds to tell us that she is unable to take orders at the moment but as soon as they are able to take orders again she would send someone over. Five minutes pass and we see her taking other table’s orders and never comes back to check on us. We finish the few dumplings we were able to order and continue to wait and try to get her attention, but she never came back. Eventually, we ran out of patience and were just very annoyed by that point, so we decided to leave. This is why I hate that they require for you to pay and tip upfront. We tipped for good service and got awful service.
I am currently a waitress and have been for years. And I always take in to consideration my surroundings and what’s going on. If there’s a reason for service to be slow then that is completely understandable. However, there was no reason here and we were not the first couple to give up and just walk out. I’ve never experienced this bad of service anywhere. She just simply did not care. If you are thinking of going here, beware of the maybe mid 20’s waitress with half blonde and half black hair. Also maybe bring cash and tip at the end. Learn...
