My first review was short and sweet and when Joe Muer first opened it's doors in Nashville. I returned within weeks of the Grand Re-opening as the Kid Rock's The Detroit Cowboy.
The differences are more aesthetic than substance. Memorabilia lovers will love Kid Rock's additions of Multiplatinum awards, American Music Award, an Emmy, and autographs galore. Music is a little louder, as should be expected, and the playlist is most likely curated by Kid Rock. The "Love America" emphasis is undeniable and yet feels right for a Nashville restaurant. The large mirror expresses the new customer approach, "Go where you are celebrated not tolerated." So, the clientele will be different than what you might expect in Detroit's Joe Muer, or another Five Star, but you shouldn't be surprised to bump into Kid Rock and friends on a daily basis.
The menu has shifted more toward red meat, but there are still plenty of delicious seafood options. I can vouch for the Shrimp and Grits, Clam Chowder, Lobster Bisque, and Deviled Crab Cake.
I can also vouch for the red meats on the menu: Freedom Run Farm Barnsley Lamb Chops and Chairmanâs Reserve Black Angus Filet are both worth your consideration.
The place was energized. Bar was almost full at 7pm on a Saturday. I could have spent an hour looking at all of the memorabilia. Some really cool stuff.
I have a friend that says you can always tell a restaurant is well managed by the state of the bathrooms, and these bathrooms have amenities you'd only expect in a hotel room. There's even flossers. Clean, pleasant, well lit - which is why some kid kept coming in with his phone so he could make a social media post. I may have photo-bombed.
Meal began with drink orders and water. Drinks were water with the exception of a couple of draft beers.
Followed by Beans Amuse-bouche to get the taste buds awakened and sliced bread and butter.
Appetizer Burrata & Calabrese Hot Honey and we left none on the plate.
Followed by Sorbet Intermezzo to cleanse the palate. It should be a dessert option too...super refreshing.
Entrees We ordered our entre right away with the exception of one chopped salad. Three had Mr. Aldoâs Bolognese and it did not disappoint. The one's who ordered it still talk about it three months later. One Tristan da Cunha Lobster Tail and it combined with the Muer Butter made for the best lobster tail I have ever had. One Wester Ross Scottish Salmon - a generous portion and deliciously seasoned. One Flannery Dry Aged Prime Bone - In NY Strip - might be the best steak on the menu. One Butter Roasted Seabass - flakey, buttery, crispy on the outside and full of flavor. One Heritage Bone-In Pork Chop - Grandpa wouldn't let anyone have a taste and he left none on the bone. One Chairmanâs Reserve Black Angus Filet with Crab Cake - Crab cake was perfectly flakey and flavor was on point and actually overshadowed the filet...in my opinion.
Sides are very shareable and we ordered the Wild Mushroom Blend (it's spicey), Crispy Brussel Sprouts (you'll like them), and Mac&Cheese which is next level good and I don't typically rave about Mac&Cheese, but it is raveable. Three sides, 8 people and we had leftovers of all three.
Desserts We had one of every dessert. The Cookie is as advertised and you can't go wrong with a warm chocolate chip cookie and vanilla ice cream and they do it right. It's huge! If you like Creme Brulee, I bet you won't find a better one. There is a reason the Coconut Cream Cake is a staple of Joe Muer restaurants. If you want tangy, then the Lemon Tart will not disappoint and the meringue could be a dessert by itself. I could have done without the bread portion of the Banoffee Profiterole, but the filling was better than Momma's banana pudding. Last but not least and the one to steal the show was the Crustless Cheesecake. I would go back there just for it. Fantastic, amazing, scrumdiliumcious! There are not enough adjectives. The only improvement is adding some gram cracker crumbles.
Evening ended around 11pm. It is an experience...
Read moreAn indescribably incredible experience...but I'll try. This was a superior dining experience starting from the time we left the car with the valet out front, to the reception as we checked in (and I'm sorry I didn't get her name) but the young lady who seated us had a connection to our hometown of Columbus, Ohio and was very friendly in greeting us and seating us. Lacy was the assistant at our table and she took care of us immediately with water and was assisting throughout the meal. Morgan was our amazing server. She assisted us throughout the meal and is knowledgeable about the menu. She made excellent suggestions. The Margarita I had was so good...I wish I could have had another but I wanted a glass of the Le Garenne, Loire-Valley 2020 Sanceere recommended by Morgan (which was perfect!) Joe Muer's wine list has a lot of choices of wines by the glass and an excellent selection of bottles. So now the food: There were many things I wish I could try, but I zeroed in on the Dover Sole Veronica a' la Nage pretty quickly. Because I didn't want to eat too much before that was served, I resisted the starters and appetizers. My husband and I shared the unique Steak House Caesar. And it is without a doubt the best Caesar salad I have ever had. The dish is composed of fresh, crunchy romaine parmesan, white anchovy and one-eyed Susan. I have included a photo of it. One-eyed Susan is a piece of perfectly grilled bread with a hole in the center and a soft cooked egg in the middle with herbs. The Caesar dressing was also wonderful. It is a large salad and my husband and I shared it and they plated each separately which was very appreciated. My husband had the crab stuffed flounder with the stone ground mustard buerre blanc. I had the Dover Sole Veronica which is in the top 10 meals I've had in my seven decades on the planet! The sole is perfectly pan sauteed (I think) and served tableside, Morgan expertly removed the bones (not a bone was left in my serving!) and then poured liquid heaven on the sole: a simmered sauce of grapes, pine nuts, capers, parsley, artichokes, tomatoes and braised leeks. Honestly, I am not overselling this. This dish must be tasted to be believed! One last thing, the bread service is also worth the carbs...especially the cheese bread! So here's the deal: We live 6 hours away from Nashville, but it might be worth it to drive there just to experience this restaurant again. Fortunately we are not as far from the two locations in the Detroit, MI area. Thank you to the culinary staff and the hospitality staff for a truly...
Read moreWanted to write this review the moment I got into the car based on my experience with the G.M. Oleg but decided to take a few days to reflect, and to see if my opinion changed. It did not so here goes. As a native of the area, like 13 generations native, we as true locals are sensitive to what was, what is now and how it may be. I hope that great culinary experiences are not run by people such as Mr. Oleg in the future. (His last name is easily found as he has spent a year here, a year to two there at some of my favorite eateries in the Gulch and in down town. Fortunately until now I have not experienced him. I hope I never do again) I hope he moves on or is moved on so I can revisit this place. Nashville needed a great, high end, high quality seafood place like this. The food is outstanding. Georges Banks Scallops, easily the best I have had in 53 years of travel. Our Server, Sid, was beyond amazing and provided bespoke service the whole time, St Regis level service, despite Oleg setting the tone for the meal in the first ten minutes. So how do you take a five star review and turn it into a one star, you have a GM that should not be forward facing and certainly not in front of house. He was rude, disrespectful and an overall AâŠHole. Had we not been there for a very special, once in a a life time occasion with elderly grandparents, and extended family, I would have asked to close the check, donate all drinks already made to bar patrons, and cashed out. Im sorry Mr. Oleg destroyed what I hoped to be a great evening once in a life time celebration, especially at $100 plus average per person, but I guess as he made very clear, Fu.. me and my family. Even the two eighty year olds with us that night quickly picked up on the fact he with out words told me to go fâ myself. When my eighty year old father in law looks at me and says, âthat guy didnt say it, but he said FâŠyou.â I will return because the food was outstanding, the service as mentioned was bespoke, but I will only return once Oleg Bulut is no longer the GM of this establishment or associated with it here in Nashville. Glad I could donate $700 plus, have a special occasion...
