Hotbox is a great workout! I've taken over 30 classes here -- mostly kickboxing, and here's my take:
WHAT'S GREAT The room is HOT, so even if you're not going 110% any particular day, you're still sweating and getting a great workout in The workouts are always slightly different, so it doesn't get boring. The instructors do a good job of mixing up routines Chris. He is by far the BEST instructor I've had -- SUPER energetic, friendly, motivating, and he corrects form which is MUCH appreciated The holiday promos for purchasing memberships or class packages -- thank you! The fact that there are also strength classes offered! So if you want, it's like having 2 gyms in one.
AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT The classes are supposed to be 45 minutes, but they are usually only 40 minutes. When the classes are $$$, you want to get the most out of every minute!! Even having the last few minutes be instructor-led stretching would help. Stretching before & after is completely on your own. The instructors dip to the hall as soon as class ends. Some of the instructors have lower energy, and that 100% feeds into the energy of the class. If they're AMPED, I am amped and giving it my all. If they're just going through the motions...so am I. The music is LOUD. Too loud. And they don't have ear plugs on hand. I bought a big pack on Amazon and wear ear plugs to every class -- you can still hear everything...you'll just have more years of hearing! The instructors generally don't focus on form, and rarely make corrections for people. I wish they did!! While I'm there for a workout, I want to make sure I'm doing things RIGHT and SAFELY. I'd love for them to correct me during class and not rely on me to ask questions after (cause if you don't know, you don't know!) Community -- the reviews and the first tour are all focused on community, friendly people, etc. I haven't felt that here -- people mostly keep to themselves. I'll caveat with this: 1) I haven't gone to the social hours, and 2) the classes are individual. It's you vs. your bag. At other kickboxing gyms I've been to, class starts with a group run, or there are portions of the workout you do with another person, and everyone high fives at the end. Read moreThis place is simply the best!!! One of my friends talked me into trying out a class, and at the time, I had no interest in kickboxing. Now I LOVE it!!! The instructors are fantastic - they break it down for the newbies but mix up the combos to keep it fresh for the returners. They have the best energy!! It’s also reallllly helped me with my mental health and feeling strong outside of the gym. The strength classes are fantastic too! The instructors make sure to keep the workouts spicy and will help you with your form (if they notice it or you ask for it). They also have yoga classes in the strength room about once or twice a week! And they offer kickboxing and strength workshops every so often that really help you with your form. They truly have everything!!! Everyone who works there (instructors and people who work the lobby) make you feel welcomed as soon as you walk in the door. They’ve remembered many personal details about me, which makes me feel like they really care ❤️ Last but not least, they are in a GREAT location - ample free parking, a coffee truck right outside for your morning workouts, and restaurants within walking distance for your afternoon/night workouts. To start off I am very new to fitness I didn’t really know what I was doing and I’m a bigger girl so these group classes can be extremely intimidating and I tend to feel like group classes are made for people already in shape and that I couldn’t be a member at a place like this but I was completely wrong. I admit I was nervous at first but from the first class I took with nick and all the classes after that I’ve felt so welcomed and have learned so much!! Both the hotbox classes and the strength classes are amazing every instructor I’ve taken has had great energy and are super willing to help explain and offer modifications if needed. The vibe is definitely give it your all show up for yourself but do what you can everyone is at a different level and I think they do a great job of making that known!! The workouts and combos are always changing and each instructor has their own twist and vibe they bring to the class which means it never gets boring! Overall I’ve learned so much I’ve gotten stronger made some friends and can safely say hotbox is for everyone and everyone should try it!! Don’t let your nerves stop you from...
