First off, Southern Engine Deli? Y’all better not be sleeping on this place—it’s giving casual vibes with gourmet-level flavor. Walk in expecting a quick lunch, walk out wondering if you just had a spiritual experience between two slices of bread.

Let’s talk about that S.E.C.—no, not the stock market, honey, but this club sandwich with tomato pesto that had absolutely no business being that good. Layers on layers of meat, crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, and that pesto? Whew. Bright, garlicky, just the right amount of sass. It wasn’t trying too hard—it just knew it was that sandwich.

Now the hot pastrami? She was bold, smoky, and unapologetically messy (as she should be). That meat was tender, melty cheese was doing the most, and the bread? Held it all together like a best friend during a breakup.

Such a great little deli! We stumbled upon this location as part of a trolley tour around Nashville and absolutely loved the lunch here!

The counter-service deli team was friendly and efficient and the lunch spot would be the sort of deli you could hit up all the time if you lived or worked in the area.

I opted for the BLT which was served on toasted sourdough and featured perfectly crisp bacon and salt and pepper along with mayo. A perfectly constructed BLT!

Others in the party all raved about their sandwiches and not a single complaint was heard. The menu board had some really awesome sounding options and if I were to find myself back at Southern Engine Deli there would be more than a few options that I'd look to try.

Stopped by Marathon Motors on our tour of Nashville around lunch time and something lite sounded really good so seeing that there was a deli inside was our cue to stop for lunch. When you go into the restaurant which is in the Marathon bigger building. Imagine it like the restaurant is a huge room in a massive house. This place was nice and the food was great! I had a ham with bacon and this delicious red spread served on toasted sourdough with harvartti cheese and lettuce and tomato. We also had a turkey on a croissant which was served on a croissant the size of my head which was a good thing. So good… it speaks volumes when you can do simple well and these guys definitely have that down.
