Grandpa Bar wants to be āsomethingā, the owner calls on an old story about a picture and used that to cobble his way into the gentrification machine.
Letās talk about that first. This is another shining example of Nashvilleās need for serious change and improvements for our residents. Grandpa sits right across from a low income housing district, and rest assured itāll be part of the push that displaces those human beings even further. It also continues the trend of exactly what Nashville doesnāt need more of: mediocre bars.
The drinks themselves were meh. I could see that they prebatched many ingredients, and at the prices theyāre charging: thatās ridiculous. Itās a race to the bottom with these establishments.
The space itself⦠well it tried. Lumber straight from HomeDepot with a slap of stain on it, a mixture of furniture that isnāt eccentric: it just looks silly. It doesnāt feel cozy, and from what I could tell, the church pew was the only comfortable seat in the house.
The staff were kind, but I could tell they lacked training.
All in all, Grandpa is a boon to apartment building residents it shares the space with, but I wouldnāt go here for a date night or with friends. Plenty of other bars on your way with far more character, a better dedication to service and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn the weekend we were there we went twice. The first time was a great experience. Our bartender drew was absolutely the best! They serve coffee and cocktails, as the name states, and the espresso martini usually comes with heavy cream but I asked for an alternative and Drew made it with oatmilk and it was delicious! He also gave us rumple minze shots but his version with chilled water and it was actually great!
The second time we came with a bigger group and itās definitely a ālocal barā feel as above the bar is an apartment complex. The 4 stars for service was for our 2nd time there. They have different events, live music, trivia, etc. and thatās great! However the way the bartender told us to quiet down while live music was playing was a little rude, and couldāve been said better, it made our group want to leave and not get anymore drinks.. I get not being loud during live music, especially for a small bar with upcoming artists, but thereās better ways to say quiet down and so if youāre coming here to pregame but thereās live music or some trivia (and youāre not interested in it) maybe donāt come? Itās not a dive bar, itās more like a hipster coffee and cocktail place, but our experience with drew at 5 pm was great! They also have a great...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThrilled to have found this new spot thatās a coffee shop during the day and a bar at night; I have a feeling itās going to be my new go-to spot.
I went for an open mic Thursday and it was a great night. Owner (Mike) is super friendly and quite amazing to be honest. He was making delicious drinks, with great attention to detail. Watching him make cocktails so passionately, I really wanted to check out this place during the day for coffee. They make their syrups from scratch, so I think Lattes would taste pretty good too.
I tried Social Butterfly from their regular menu, and loved it. I also tried Peppermint Mochatini from their seasonal menu and liked that as well. Iād definitely recommend social butterfly for those who like gin-based cocktails. Canāt wait to try lavender latte (iced) next time I go.
Parking is somewhat hard to find but I was able to find street parking easily because I went early but all my friends found street parking at different times throughout the night. Many of my friends couldnāt find the place easily, I had to go out to wave at them.. but if you see the sign at eye level, you can find this place.
Itās a great neighborhood gem for me and Iāll be going there again very soon with my other...
