This is a welcoming place for a Mississippi River paddler and his beagle. Located at the top of the boat-ramp, and a short walk from "the Tree" (nod to all knowing paddlers), this is a convenient place, and the beer is so cold it might hurt your teeth! A relaxing atmosphere having welcoming bartenders, and locals. Here's an inside tip: Don't try to impress the locals with your stories, instead, ask questions of the "regulars". I guarantee you will be rewarded with some really good stories, if you are patient. The owner of the saloon also has a B&B next door, the Mark Twain. Paddlers make note of that.

I hadn't started on my 2nd round yet since the bartender Lee didn't give me my change yet. It was extremely busy, there was a band and she was stressed so I figured it was an accident. But when I asked about it she freaked out on me yelling and saying I was just trying to steal from her. I've worked in the service industry for 16 years and would never! I had my first bowl of gumbo, and that's set the stage for the rest of my time living here. I have a very fond memory of sitting out front on a busy Saturday night with my dad, my uncle, and my uncle's friend.
