This place is horrible and is a shameful scar on the historic, beloved, and otherwise beautiful Broad Street.
We had been here in 2016 with some friends and had waited over an hour for our food. Since it wasn't very busy we decided to give it another chance. Oh man that was dumb.
Our experience started out as expected on a Sunday morning - full restaurant with two or three other parties waiting. We were not greeted ever but were seated at the counter rather quickly. Within a few minutes we had ordered.
This is where everything stopped. We waited 45 minutes for our food. Everyone looked busy enough behind the counter - including the frantic cook who I observed swapping the ticket orders several times. And by that I mean is actually changed the priority of the orders! Eventually, the people who waited at the door for us had eaten, paid, and left. We were the only people left from the first crowd and were told "your food's coming out ... in about 10 minutes..."
We tried to ask about the status of our order but the waitress was very abrupt and kept walking away from me (not sure what she was doing but it wasn't much).
Nearly an hour after we walked into the place I got my plate of food. I looked up at the rude waitress and said, pointing at my partner, "Where's his?" She said nothing and just walked away. I sat there, waiting more. Five minutes later his plate was plopped down - again, without a word. No waitress ever said a thing to us the entire time we were there.
As with other reviews this place is filthy - absolutely filthy. The kitchen and service areas look like they haven't been cleaned in years. Service is slow, rude, confused, and clumsy. The food was awful (I watched and timed it: the hash browns on my plate sat on the griddle for over half an hour!). Biscuits were cold. The gravy was so overly sticky I couldn't get through the first bite. It was absolutely disgusting. A seemingly important woman approached and offered a week apology/excuse. I would think she's the manager or even the owner but after the terrible experience we'd had her side of the conversation was downright offensive that she would even ponder the thought of an excuse. She said to me "We try to be friendly" - I pointed to the rude waitress and said "Tell HER that!". And just as I glanced at the griddle I saw the cook swap the order of tickets again. This is completely unacceptable and clearly explained why food was not being prepared timely.
We were done. We will never return to this place. You shouldn't...
Read moreThe food is good. The service was attentive. Unfortunately, that doesn't make up for the fact that it took over an hour for the food to come out. The service got awkward after half an hour because they knew the waiting time was absurd and all they could do was offer my husband his fourth cup of coffee. The owner mainly waited on us. She must be well aware of her cafe's fatal flaw: the wait time. It's all over the Internet. She's known about it for years and obviously hasn't done a thing for it.
The restaurant didn't seem too dirty to me. The one thing that stood out was that cook didn't wear gloves. He touched the food with his bare hands. Gloves are health code 101. Maybe he had the cleanest hands in the world. I don't know. Either way, he still should have been wearing gloves.
The final thing is the prices. The prices are fair. This restaurant is in a high volume touristy area. Landlords charge exorbitant rents for these spots. The food isn't going to be cheap, even greasy-spoon food. My family member owned a prominent restaurant in the area. He had outstanding business. He had to move to another location because the landlady kept jacking up his rent. Granted he's still downtown, but still. You can't expect dirt cheap prices in an area like the historic Nevada...

This cute and cozy restaurant is located on Broad Street in Nevada City California. They open at 9am and close at 230pm (i think they are closed on Wednesdays).
The place reminds me of a true diner! Its casual yet artful ambience fits in with the Nevada City vibe.
My boyfriend and i wanted breakfast and i haven't been here in years so we decided to give it a try. GLAD we did...breakfast was good but not over filling...2 eggs with hash browns and 2 pancakes. Also added crispy bacon on the side. Pancakes were nice and fluffy, and crispy bacon is exactly what we wanted! Coffee was nice and strong and tasty. They also have mimosas and beer and wine.
The location is great as its right off the freeway and you can walk to all the shops! This is also where they filmed the movie "The Christmas Card". They are located directly across from the National Hotel.
Great experience..quick service. SEAN was very friendly and on top of taking care of the customers needs. Truly shows his personal care and attention to the business. ALFONZO did a great job cooking up the food!
Definitely be back when i am in town..Have to try their...
