We skipped dessert at the Stone House Pizza restaurant in favor of the Chocolate Shoppe because the wife loves to try local versions of Rocky Road bricks from the region. This shoppe is family owned and run which typically means that the flavor of chocolate we could get here may be unique to this establishment. The shoppe is located on the right side of the street heading up the hill in Nevada City's Pine Street in Downtown.
When you come through the door, it looks like most candy/chocolate shops you would see offering the same kinds of commercial candies, sodas, ice creams, etc. Standard fare. We are only ever interested in the chocos so went straight to the glass to see what they offered. Their rocky road is sold in clusters vs. cut up bricks/cubes and were about 3.50 a piece. For me, this is a much more reasonable price than I am used to as many boutique choco shoppes sell these for the tune of about 8.50 or so, but that is also a pricing based on weight and not necessarily by piece. We also picked up a Macadamia Cluster and a Peanut Butter Cup.
The Macadamia nut cluster tasted good. Good sized nuts with a sprinkle of salt works for me as I love the salt hit with my choco. The peanut butter cup was tall, about 2.5 Reese's stacked on each other and the peanut butter inside is smooth and balanced for a candy vs. sandwich peanut butter. Well done. For my wife, she felt the milk chocolate was good, but not as good as her favorite from the Monterey coast Pier choco shoppe. I agree with her in the sense that these were good, but not the best we have ever had. In a world where chocolate tastes less and less like what you expect it to everyday, this one is still a good one.
I recommend it for...
Read moreThis place got me in the door with a sign saying "gluten free and vegan options"! Kosher too. I pigged out on dark chocolate honey comb after they confirmed that there was no dairy in the dark chocolate (wasn't marked "v" probably because honey, but I have a dairy thing not necessarily vegan). My fam is not diet challenged and had other things including a dark chocolate covered caramel marshmallow that is apparently now a favorite thing for someone who doesn't really do sweets! A sweet feat. It was a little slow because there was one gal at the counter and I was a little peeved that they took another customer before me when I was there first but gf/df chocolate (priorities). I would definitely...
Read moreSuper cute little shop somewhat reminiscent of a Rocket Fizz with a small selection of novelties along the walls, but obviously not cluttered like a Rocket Fizz. The place is pretty much spotlessly clean. They sell ice cream in addition to chocolate/candy. The lady working there couldn't have been nicer. I asked her about the sugar-free chocolates and she allowed me to taste one side-by-side with a "normal" version of the same flavour. (For the record, I found that they were comparable, but the sugar-free one was a bit less rich and had a smoother texture, almost like the texture of bubble gum.) We each bought a treat and snacked on a bench across the street. Very...
