This place has it all! Whether you're looking for coffee, espresso, tea, baked goods, soups, salads, sandwiches, wood-fired pizza, wines, hard cider, & beer, you will be covered. To me, this is a way to truly attract a very large demographic in a very small town. This takes me on a trip to beautiful and historic Nevada City where I had the honor of trying out "Three Forks Bakery & Brewing".
Located at 211 Commercial St. and just off of Highway 49 in the heart of downtown Nevada City, Three Forks has been a huge favorite for locals as well as tourists passing through. I arrived here with my +1 at around 2:45pm during the afternoon of Sunday 12/26/2021. There is a dedicated parking lot (which can fill up quickly) as well as surrounding parking in the area. But since this is a heavily traveled area with many shops, boutiques, and restaurants, it might be a bit challenging finding somewhere to park during peak hours.
As of late-December 2021, the normal operating business hours are Wednesday through Monday from 8am-9pm while allowing their staff to have a day off on Tuesdays. Of course this is subject to change due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They do not take reservations. However they do offer quite a bit of cozy indoor seating as well as a tent where you can dine outside. Since I came up here on a snowy 32° day, I was lucky to find a family leaving while I sat inside.
The interior layout of this place is as cozy and homely as you'd expect from a small, family-owned business in the country. It had a very cabin-like feel to it with the wooden beams in the ceiling, a very generous bar area with several beers on tap, and a spacious seating area for couples as well as bigger groups. Keep in mind that masks/facial coverings are required upon entry to keep the staff safe during the pandemic. If you forget your mask, they offer disposable ones right when you walk in the door.
As far as my lunch and desserts, I ended up going with a beet red velvet cupcake with Gina Marie cream cheese frosting and a hot spiced cider. And my main entrée consisted of their popular "Salami Pizza". This pizza had homemade tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese, provolone, garlic, oregano, and Parmesan with orangic wild yeast crust. I completed this with a pint of their "Purdon Porter" beer (5.7% abv). After paying + adding the tip at the register, I was given a number and sat at our table. Within 10 minutes, our piping hot pizza was brought out to us.
Overall, the flavor of the pizza was absolutely delicious. I'm a huge fan of the wood-fired pizzas and this did not disappoint. The price at $18 was also a good deal since this pizza was big enough to feed two hungry people. Even their baked goods are exceptionally succulent as the cupcake was a nice treat and complimented the hot apple cider nicely. All in all, "Three Forks Bakery & Brewing" is just that, a great bakery and a great place to enjoy a brew with lots of food options to choose from. My rating, an above...
Read moreAfter eating their sourdough crust brick oven pizza, no other pizza cuts it for me. Awesome breads, baked in the brick oven with the residual heat from the pizza cooking the night before. The beers turned me into a wannabe connoisseur, and made me like stouts and porters for the first time. They have a higher commitment to local, sustainable sourcing than any restaurant I've ever heard of. Most places say "we use organic ingredients whenever possible," or something along those lines but if you ask them to get specific it turns out whenever possible means about 20-30% of the time. I've heard it's in the high high nineties at Three Forks. Even though the BLT is their most popular sandwich, they don't serve it in the winter because there aren't any local tomatoes. The opening of this place transformed my whole relationship with the town because now I always know there will be extraordinarily clean food at a reasonable price any time of day and great loitering. And, yes, I'm a little biased because I always see my friends there. Stop googling...

Great quality food made with good intentions... But, completely unconcerned with providing the same quality and nutrition to vegans.
They say they can make many items vegan, but what that means is that they can remove 1/2 the ingredients and replace then with nothing leaving you with 1/2 the meal, 1/2 the nutrition, for 100% of the price. They offer no vegan protein sources and no cheese alternatives.
They claim it's because they don't believe in soy or processed foods, yet they could make in-house local nut cheeses, bean-based burgers, and any of the other thousands of whole foods clean vegan options that are only one Google search away.
They are either uninformed or simply don't actually want to serve vegans.
If you are vegan, you will be disappointed.
Just keep walking around town and you will good several other restaurants with the same awesome commitment to quality AND plenty of vegan options. You and your meat eating friends...
