Please read your Mission Statement Communal Cafe Owner~ … my experience over the past year since moving back to NevCo had been great, but today everything changed sadly…I was treated very rudely by the young girl at the counter taking my order. I asked her about the owner being in, since I had brought by a few of my handmade candles(supporting bee health) a few months ago now and every time I came in she was gone already, so I came in early this day to meet her. I was told she was there, but would not be speaking to her as she was too busy, very rudely! I took a breath and continued my order, spending $26(again)….I am a long time local, raising my 4 children in this town, former Broad Street business owner(sold to a still existing neighbor) & this experience felt disturbing that this “Communal” Cafe would treat a customer, local artist/community mother this way.
I won’t be coming back here as the experience got worse after the said employee was talking with owner while I was waiting on my latte, not sure what about, but it wasn’t t right that I couldn’t be acknowledged when I was kind and had brought in 2 candles worth $40 w/no response after 2-3 months of checking in and then when owner was there, nothing but rudeness and she walked by me after that and just gave me a look…??!?
FYI Community: The “live juice” here is probably not very high vibe at all, since the vibes aren’t always High🙃.
Unfortunately, I’ll be spreading the word and the only reason I started going there more and brought in my candles was because I was told that it would be accepted and juice was good(just expensive as F*) by a fam member who is a long term regular. Seriously, I was really looking forward to offering different handmade organic creations that support the body & earth, but not...
Read moreMy roommate really enjoyed his paleo bowl breakfast. I personally am not vegetarian nor vegan and soon discovered my carnivorous likes were not suitable for this popular spot. Nonetheless they have a large happy clientele and local vibe. It is hip no doubt but the elephant in the room barks.
Yes, I counted 14 dogs (inside) during our visit. I felt like I was eating in a bark park. I did appreciate that a staff member asked a barking dog owner to leave. But during breakfast I was surrounded by dogs licking their junk, growling, or jumping and anxious to meet a new playmate. I can let the vegan targeted menu go for this brief visit to Nevada City, but this "bring your dog everywhere" deal is a turn off. Sorry folks, your dog isn't that cool, and I like dogs.
If you love dogs in vegetarian based restaurants this spot is your go-to place for coffee and pretty good (french toast here) breakfast. If you'd rather eat without the dog butthole views, find another spot that supports local...
Read moreLocated in the heart of Nevada City, Communal Cafe is a delightful gem that never fails to impress. Exceptional service and inviting atmosphere, make it a favorite spot of ours for some time.
The staff at Communal are friendly and fun and it's evident that they take pride in their work and are committed to continuously raising the bar. The atmosphere in the cafe is another favorite of mine, theres room to work, lounge and the long communal (see what I did there) tables make mingling with new people very easy and exciting, they also often have live music too.
Any dish we've tried was delicious and apparently they're all from locally sourced ingredients, and their pastries, oh my god.
I've definitely seen this place when it is slow and when it is way overcrowded on busy weekends when people from outside of town travel in, and all in all the wait for service or orders was always within reason.
5 out of 5, you...
