I have to leave review on every platform possible for such poor run place.
Terrible Experience – Accused of Stealing Over Their Own Mistake
I went in for dinner and ended up being accused of stealing pizza. I ordered a few slices and asked for ranch. The lady at the counter gave me my total, and I tapped my card on the terminal. I heard the beep, assumed it had gone through, and stood there for the next 30 seconds waiting for her to acknowledge the payment. She said nothing. I figured everything was fine. I waited about five minutes for my food, grabbed it, and walked outside. I wasn’t even leaving—just standing further away, looking for my car keys—when the same lady ran after me, yelling aggressively that I hadn’t paid. I went back in, she yelled the total at me again, and finally flipped the screen around so I could see it. I paid again and told her I was sorry—I genuinely didn’t know the payment hadn’t gone through. But she continued treating me like I’d tried to steal it.
Here’s the kicker: I was at this place a week earlier, and something similar happened. That time, I tapped my card, waited for her to acknowledge it, and eventually had to ask if it went through. She seemed annoyed, flipped the screen toward me. Clearly, this is not a one-off issue. I seriously encourage the place to check the security cameras. I did tap the terminal. The issue is with staff who are not trained (or too checked out) to handle it properly. If someone can't manage the register or track transactions, maybe someone else should be doing it.
If you’re just visiting, skip this place—there are better spots in Nevada City with friendlier, more competent staff. If you live here, respect yourself and go somewhere else.
To the staff: please, train someone who actually understands how the payment system works.
I won’t be back—and neither will my...
Read moreWhen they first opened, the pizza was not bad. They offered large slices and they came out Neapolitan/New York style (I’m not saying it’s the same quality, but the style was on-point).
I’ve heard endless conjecture as to how New Yorkish this place is and what defines NY pizza.
I lived in NY for over 20 years and Brooklyn is where I was before I moved to Nevada County. The last thing I bought before I left, was a pizza. So I don’t want to argue with some joker from Sac about what makes NY pizza or how this stacks up.
A New York pie has a balanced crust. It is not crunchy like a cracker and it is not floppy like a California slice. Because we don’t eat our pizza with a fork and knife like a bunch of savages.
The crust here used to be crispy on the bottom, a little char around the edges, soft enough to fold.
Now it’s generic, floppy, flaccid California crust. Doughy, no risk of getting too crispy. Even in the toaster, it’s soggy and uncrispable.
The waits are outrageous, the space is crowded and impractical and the staff are ineffective; often leaving the phone off the hook. Our last pie took an hour and a half. To be fair, they told us 40 minutes and then forgot to make it, so.
I think when Mallory worked here, she compelled some amount of order. Now it’s sheer chaos and the food isn’t worth it anymore.
They’ve definitely changed recipes and ingredients and it’s not a whole lot different now from any other California pizza place. With the obvious exception of their one-of-a-kind candied pesto topping.
Lots of people love it. If you’re the kind of person who likes fruit on your pizza, you’re in good hands. If you believe all the friggin’ stunods who call this New York Pizza, prepare for...
Read moreWe live in reno and were visiting the adorable downtown after our wedding in the area. Stopped in for some lunch and I have to say the pizza was amazing. Unfortunately that was not enough to make up for the absolutely abysmal service. The girls behind the counter were rude to everyone in our party. She had asked if my brother in law wanted paper plates or a box and although he chose a box it was on plates, so I asked politely if he could have a box to which she snapped at me that she asks everyone what they want and he chose plates. None of us were upset with a simple mistake but the way she responded was incredibly rude. Even if he HAD asked for plates (which was not that case) she should have said, "sure" and just handed us a box. How hard is that? My friend is not able to eat gluten per doctor instructions and when she ordered "type A" pizza on cauliflower crust the girl told her that that is not how it works because 'type A' pizza comes with a specific crust and for future reference she needs to order a 'type B' pizza on cauliflower crust. They also snapped at another customer to move out of the way as the customer was adding parmasan/pepper flakes to their pizza at the counter where the staff hands people their pizza. ....because that's where the toppings are located with a sign that says do not move them. So even though the food was absolutely worth coming back for, I would not support a business with such...
