I just got To-Go from Cocina Real and I am disappointed. The food is always amazing but the price was crazy. Last time I ordered to go, I got two-3 regular tacos. They cost me $13.98 for the both of them.and I was charged $2.00 for two bags of chips. I thought that was a little odd to be charged for chips when they come with but needless to say I didn't complain. Now today I ordered the same thing but added rice and beans to each meal. I went there and the cashier charged me $25.98 for the same thing and then the $2.00 for two bags of chips. I said that last time the tacos were much less, what happened? The cashier said it included the rice and beans this time. I said so you are charging $6.00 extra per meal for rice and beans? He said, no it's only $4.00 extra. I said could you please charge me for the two taco meals and then two sides of rice and beans? He said it would be the same price. I was so embarrassed because I didn't have enough money on me. He agreed to take off $4.00 to try to help. But that still cost me $8.00 for rice and beans which is crazy. Plus the $2.00 each time I had to pay for the chips. I felt like I was scammed and I will not be returning. The first time I went, the same cashier short changed me and left the money out of the register until I walked out the door and then after that I have bo clue. And this time the cashier didn't even open the register. I don't want to ever accuse anyone of anything but I do not trust what happened either time I went. I feel bad about speaking my mind but I truly think that cashier is...
Read moreExcellent carryout experience! Like so many others, Cocina Real has been a part of our family's life over the last ~15 years. We regularly went there for dinner on Saturdays, thoroughly enjoyed the food and often remarked on how, for some reason, we had some of the best and funniest family discussions over dinner there. Tonight, we decided to order carryout as a way to support this small business who has brought us so much joy over the years, also in hope of helping them survive the shutdown, so we all can benefit from their continued ability to remain in business. I have to remark on what a positive experience it was. First, they are making a very concerted effort to adhere to the current health safety standards. Second, the food was darn near the same as if we were sitting in the restaurant. We were very happy. And then... we ended up spending 3 hours talking around the dinner table and laughing, having an amazing family evening together, just as if we were physically in the restaurant! So, the magic of Cocina Real continues for this family. Thank you to all of you who made tonight's meal possible, and our prayers are with all of you and also all of those personnel who we would normally see serving there on a Saturday night, and we look forward to seeing you all...
Read moreWe've been here twice, and both times, I haven't been too impressed. The restaurant hasn't been very busy on either visit, but the staff is friendly and helpful. There are a couple of notes on the front door--one mentions that some menu items have an upcharge and recommends asking your waiter for details, while another states that there's an additional charge for using a credit card due to processing fees. It's good to know these things in advance. I do wish the menu listed which items have an upcharge, but I assume the waiter would mention it when ordering.
I ordered a "Create Your Own Combo" meal with one quesadilla and rice and beans since I wasn't too hungry (plus, I have a hard time resisting the free chips and salsa). The salsa is nothing special but does the job. We also ordered the Choridip, which was great with the chips and as a topping for our entrees. My husband got the steak fajitas. The food came out quickly and in generous portions, so we had leftovers to take home. Unfortunately, my chicken quesadilla was a bit disappointing--the meat was watery, which made the tortilla soggy.
Overall, it's not a bad spot for the price, but it wouldn't be my...
