Sharing feedback about our experience dining at your restaurant last night. While we were looking forward to enjoying a good meal, several service issues left us very disappointedâand concerned.
To begin, our server clearly struggled throughout the evening, but it was evident that the core issue wasnât her effortâit was a lack of proper training and support. From slow service to confusion over simple requests, it became clear she had not been adequately prepared to do her job. That responsibility lies with leadership, not the individual staff member.
Most concerning, however, was the way an inquiry about a shellfish allergy was handled. All four employees we interacted withâincluding a gentleman who seemed to be the ownerâgave different and inconsistent answers. In a restaurant, especially one that serves culturally rich and diverse food, there should be a clear and established system in place for handling food allergies. This is a basic, non-negotiable element of safe restaurant operations. Telling a customer, âWe wash every pan after we cook,â does not constitute an acceptable food safety protocol under ServSafe or any standard allergen guidelines.
Additionally, we witnessed the server being fired in front of guests, with the gentleman raising his voice as she walked out. This was incredibly uncomfortable and unprofessional for everyone in the restaurant. Staff matters like this should always be handled privately and respectfully, away from customers. Not only was there no apology or acknowledgment to the tables who witnessed this, but the situation escalated into a disagreement with another party dining nearby.
While the food itself was enjoyable, the service experienceâand especially the way the situation was handledâensured that we wonât be returning. I want to be clear that we do not place the blame on the server. She appeared to be doing her best with little to no guidance, and that reflects a leadership issue.
I hope you take this feedback seriously. Opening a new restaurant comes with growing pains, but creating a culture of professional, respectful service starts at the top. Proper training, consistent allergy procedures, and respectful staff management are essentialâboth for safety and for...
Read moreThis is strictly a review of the food but the largest and most critical issue is the inconsistencies you will get from eating here. When they're on, they're great. When they're not, it's borderline inedible.
Unfortunately, we continue to get the bad food more than the good and it makes it extremely difficult to recommend this place to anyone or continue to order food from Thai Isan.
I always order the Pad Kra Pow and it has been excellent twice out of dozen or so times we have had it. The other times I have received the spice level so hot you can't eat it, or you order sticky rice but you get a bucket of steamed rice or you get steamed Italian beef sandwich meat instead of strips of succulent, pan seared steak. And sometimes you'll get the vegetables diced and sliced or you'll get red and green peppers that have been quartered and hardly cooked.
I want this place to work because there is so little food diversity in New Braunfels, and the location is excellent but man, they gotta figure out how to make a consistently good product.
If they can figure out how to make good food as consistently as Jerry Jones over paying players, they'll be one of the few go to spots in New Braunfels. For now, we'll have to give them a break.
Until...
Read moreFinally a good Thai place in New Braunfels! We've ordered from here a few times to be sure before reviewing. The quality is consistent, the food is hot, and they're not afraid to use seasoning to give their dishes lots of flavor. I can't speak to the restaurant atmosphere since we have only ordered delivery, but I have spoken to the staff over the phone; all of who are very friendly and helpful. Delivery is always quick and easy, and their website is very simple to navigate when ordering.
As for the food: their brisket egg rolls are a great Texas twist on an Asian dish. Not too greasy from the brisket and the wrappers are fried to a nice crisp. My only complaint is they were sold out this last time! The green curry has a nice spice level and is a good dinner portion. Their pumpkin curry has tons of flavor. Their pad thai has all the right ingredients balanced in the right proportions.
Overall, we are impressed with Thai Isan and will continue to order from here as our...
