This is an American Mexican (in that order) fusion restaurant. I do not say this with any malicious intent, it just is what it is. Personally it's just one of a great many things that make our country such an awesome place to live in. The workers there were all pretty nice, so there no complaints there. The atmosphere is more typical to what you would find to a sports bar/hot wings joint rather than your usual taco stand. Not a bad thing in my opinion, just an it is what it is. Take it or leave it. The food. Or rather the tacos, if you want to call them that. I can see where some people would like them. My daughter raves about this place. Personally, however, I'm a taco purist. I like my tacos to be rather simple things. I want a fresh and warm tortilla, some type of meat or filling, and some salsa. That's it. These "tacos" were concoctions with a dozen different ingridients placed on a cold flour tortillas, which is a sin in my book. The flavor wasn't bad just a little more complicated than I would prefer. We also had the chips and queso. Now that was really good. I'm much more forgiving about queso than I am about tacos. As such the corn chips were of the thin variety and queso was tasty. If they have my game on the TV, I could easily see me coming the chips and beer kinda evening. Heck I might even do a take out on the chips, highly recommend those. However, at the end of the night I'll go to a taco stand to...
Read moreWhen we showed up, there weren't too many people in the restaurant nor outside on the patio. There was 3 of us. The people at the registers were pretty friendly. We ordered a Matador (secret menu), 2 Tipsy Chicks, 1 Brushfire and 1 Beef Fajita. We also got free chips and queso with my friends points on their app. We went to get our drinks and I was happy to see they had aguas frescas. I went with Strawberry Dragon fruit and Lemonade. Our food came out relatively quickly and it looked delicious. Let me tell you something, the ingredients inside the taco were fantastic! I had a Tipsy Chick and the Beef Fajita. The meats were marinated perfectly and the veggies tasted great. What I couldn't get past was the tortillas. They were room temp at best. They tasted like they were warmed up in the microwave in a trapo (dishcloth). My friend asked someone if next time we visited, could we tell them to throw the tortillas on the grill because they weren't hot. The reply we got was "Really? Because we make everything right back there." Again my friend asked if we could ask them to throw the tortillas on the grill next time we visited. She said she would ask and be right back. We stayed talking at the table for about another 10 minutes. She NEVER came back out. While I believe that their ingredients are fresh, those tortillas are not. You can always tell when a tortilla is handmade and when it's commercially made. These are...
Read moreTOTAL WASTE; both of my $19.48 (incl. tip), and my son vomited after eating!!! I've had decent experiences at a couple of Torchy's in San Antonio, so tried New Braunfels this weekend but won't do so again! Walked in 40 minutes prior to closing on SUN 5/11. A pleasant lady took my to-go order for a Grande Burrito (steak), and talked me into adding a cookie, Being Mother's Day, I waited patiently but after 15-20 minutes noticed the 3 eat-in parties of 3-4 people each that came in well after me, got served at their respective tables while my buzzer had yet to go off. I politely approached the counter and a middle aged man asked if I was #xx, then said it would be right out. It ended up being 5-10 minutes before closing when I was finally handed my order. It was quite obvious that the staff, wanting to lock up and leave on time, had prioritized the 3 eat-in orders in hopes of them finishing before closing time, while putting my to-go order on the back burner. I took the order home to my adult son. About 15 minutes later he texted to thank me for the thought but then told me the burrito had big chunks of gristle/sinew and had been making him vomit, so asked that I never get anything from there again for him. I ended up with the cookie but it was inedible because it was hard as a rock, so I assume it was many days old. 3...
