Looks like Karla’s has a lot of new fans! I see a lot of reviews talking about limited selection, and I think maybe some folks don’t GET this restaurant. Here’s my two cents as someone who’s been eating here for over 10 years:
First off, if we’re talking about Mondays (locals’ night): yeah, the menu is limited by necessity, but you get excellent value for your money. 3 delicious courses plus delicious coffee for ~$20/person? Good luck finding a better deal anywhere else.
Second, their menus on every other night have PLENTY of options for a place this compact. Maybe they don’t have five dozen variations of the same five recipes using the same five ingredients like some other restaurants do. Who cares? What you get served WILL be excellent!
Third, do I even have to mention the cocktails? Easily worth every penny, and consistently wonderful.
Fourth, service. Listen, the whole COVID-19 thing HAS changed things. Over the years, we have always appreciated the warmth of Karla’s staff. I took my wife here for our first date, and years later, this was where I proposed to her (quietly). We have a lot of good memories from this place. But economics being what it is, Karla’s is struggling a bit in dealing with demand, especially on Mondays. So if you want a great locals’ night experience, try to get there as soon as they start serving dinner.
Fifth, if you’re still not satisfied, maybe think about, I dunno, getting over yourself and growing up? I know that real estate in New Hope has gotten pricier and a bunch of affluent people—OK, more affluent THAN USUAL people—have moved into the area. You want the finer things, sure, OK. 5-star restaurants with internationally-famous chefs. Why not. Well, guess what? New Hope and the rest of Bucks County are still a suburb, regardless of how much your house costs or what you’re used to getting in the city. This is not the biggest restaurant in the world—and it’s not trying to be. Judge Karla’s on its own merits, and you’ll see this joint is, and always has...
Read moreI use to be a huge fan of this restaurant, literally came every Saturday for months. I would bring my family from Florida there every time they came out and we always had a great experience. When I arrived yesterday I was completely astonished by the lack of respect from the host. I walked in and said hello, the server looked at me and with a blank star, almost like, why are you here? Very unwelcoming. I walked up to the host and ask how long the wait was, their respond was 30 mins, ok no problem, totally don’t mind waiting but I saw a few tables open that was more than accommodating my party of 3. I had politely asked if there was anyway we could sit at one of the smaller tables, we don’t mind… their response was very sarcastic and said “if it looked like I could sit you there I would, I told you 30 mins so you can go wait” WOW. There was absolutely no customer service, not even respectful in the way they spoke to us and when I responded and said I’m very sorry if I had upset you, there response was, “I already told you, 30 minutes!”.. raising her voice at me when I was completely calm and just trying to find a way to make it work. It was so awkward that another group of people that walked in behind me, walked right out. I’m not sure what happened here, they were fantastic and so accommodating and if they couldn’t do something, they were so respectful and did what they could to help. They absolutely lost me as a lifelong customer, I will never bring my friends and family here again, I would never spend my money on a business that absolutely has no care or respect for their customers and allow their staff to talk down to us like we are children. Very disappointing. In the end, we went to greenhouse across the street and had a fantastic time, they were polite; respectful and very welcoming. Save yourself the disappointment and...
Read moreCame in with a friend around 6 for dinner on a Tuesday. We were able to get a seat immediately. Cute place and cozy decor. The outdoor seating is nice.
The staff was friendly. They have prime rib Tuesdays so we were excited to try it out. All the food came out at a good pace.
Let me start off by saying their cocktails are absolutely phenomenal. Completely saved the meal because the rest really wasn't all that impressive. The creamsicle is amazing. It's got just enough cream, the orange juice was so fresh, and the tang gave it a nice brightness. It was boozy and absolutely perfect. The mango martini had what I believe is the freshest mango juice I've ever had. I couldn't believe how good it was.
For starters we got the ahi tuna tostadas. It comes topped with seaweed and spicy mayo. There was 2 tostadas stacked on top of each other with an even amount of tuna and seaweed on each except the bottom layer didn't contain any spicy mayo. Otherwise would have made it easy to split amongst 2 people to just take a stack. Either way the dish had no salt on it at all. The spicy mayo wasn't enough for seasoning. Also the tuna was either soaking in some kind of acid like lime juice or something cause it had a mushy texture.
For entrees we opted for the 18oz prime rib. I got medium while she got medium rare. The waiter mixed ours up. The moment I cut into it I could tell mine was more rare than hers. Either way both were overcooked. Never had prime rib this tough before. I think they seared the outside too long. It was seasoned nicely though and the baked potato was okay. The au jus was tasty.
For dessert I got the coconut cake and man was that...
