We're so glad our planner recommended Bittersweet for our wedding cake! We immediately knew it was a good rec when we loved every single bite of the tasting. It was so hard to decide what we wanted, but Cheryl solved that by saying we could mix and match. We chose almond cake with almond + cream cheese frosting. The final product tasted amazing - perfect texture, not dry but still held its shape. When it came to design, she perfectly matched the photo we sent. I don't know how she makes normal icing look just like marble with gold accents but it was beautiful. The look on my husband's face after he had a bite says it all. We also ordered pastries to have while getting ready and they were delicious and ginormous. For GF folks, Cheryl has a delightful gluten free banana bread muffin. They delivered our pastries to our hotel too which made things super convenient. My husband and I live out of state but just celebrated our anniversary. I think one of my favorite things about Bittersweet is that it's not events. They have a cute cafe + bakery, so we were able to get fresh wedding cake cupcakes (and pastries) to celebrate the occasion. I'm sure our cake would've still been great a year later, but I think this is the way to go and we're excited for many more trips to Bittersweet in the future!

We hired Bittersweet for both our Wedding Cake and Groom’s cake. Their cakes were excellent in both taste and design. Our wedding cake was a very traditional--5 tiers with almond/wedding cake outer icing, almond/wedding cake, and cream cheese filling. Not only was it easily one of the best–if not the best–cake we’ve ever tasted, the design was elegant and perfectly matched our wedding. They also worked with us to create a stencil for the outer icing which matched the design of the bride’s veil and was absolutely beautiful. The Groom’s cake was a chocolate cake with cookies and cream icing and oreo garnish. We decided to go with Bittersweet for the Groom’s Cake well after we’d asked them to make the wedding cake and they worked with me to schedule a tasting during my bachelor weekend in New Orleans on pretty short notice. With no direction from me other than the flavors I wanted they made a Groom’s cake that was not only delicious, but was also a perfect companion to the Wedding Cake. Overall, Bittersweet made delicious, perfectly designed cakes, and were very accommodating in doing so. We would highly recommend them and can’t wait to enjoy the top tier of our cake on our anniversary! Photos by James Shaw Photography.

Last year I ordered a Lambeth style cake for my birthday. I sat on this for a whole year because I don't like giving negative reviews. I just looked at a picture from my birthday and I was so annoyed. Custom cakes are incredibly expensive and we went through lots of conversations about what the cake should look like. I said multiple times it needs lots of green with pink and purple accents. I specifically said no white icing. Then, the cake I got had 0 green and a base of white. I saw their notes. It said no white. My emails never mentioned white because I didn't want it. I specifically said green repeatedly. They confirmed. Yes, the cake tasted good. Yes, it was ready on time. However, when you're paying $200 for custom cake decorations you should get what you asked for and confirmed email and phone and photos. My inspo is the bottom photo and the top is what I got. I said make the base color lime green and the accents purple and pink. As it was the day of the party there was nothing to be done about the cake. I tried to be excited about it, but I was really so sad that I was thinking I was doing something nice for myself and didn't get what I wanted at all.

I am shocked that the service my family received from Bittersweet Confections was so awful because the Google reviews were excellent. I bought and paid over 80$s for a birthday cake that was never provided. I live in North Carolina and my son, his wife and daughter live in NOLA. I ordered their signature cake for my daughter n law's birthday 5/20/2022, received a receipt and sent the receipt to my son, Nathanial Zimet to pick the cake up on 5/27/2022. Order number 412271324 Bittersweet confections accepted my payment and I received no further communications from them. On May 27th my daughter n law, son and granddaughter age 4 waited in the car, went in to pick up the cake. She was told that there was no record of a cake being ordered. She went to the car and my son, Nathanial came in with the receipt. Nathanial was asked to wait 10 minutes, which he refused because his wife and 4 year old daughter were waiting in the car. Nathanial was then told, by whom he assumed was the manager who never provided his name, that they weren't certain it there was a computer or human error. He continued to deflect without apologizing. Nathanial told him that he was also in the service industry, and the first step should have been to apologize, accepting responsibility for their mistake, and then trying to determine what the bakery can do to rectify the situation. The worker hardly apologized, and then asked when we needed the cake by. Nathanial said "Now," to which he replied, "When, exactly?" Once again, Nathanial said he wanted it now, and that they were planning on eating it when they got home. Nathanial told him that they were going to leave, and the worker was going to sort out the issue, and deliver a cake to their house, which he agreed to do. As Nathanial and his family were driving back, they got a call saying that the only cake they would be able to provide would be a frozen cake, that would take hours to defrost. They declined, and asked for our money back. No money has been returned and no further communication has been received by me, in North Carolina, nor by my son, Nathanial Zimet in...

We were visiting New Orleans for Mardi Gras weekend and was looking for a bite to eat for breakfast before the parade festivities. The front desk attendant at the hotel referred us to this restaurant. She said that the food was really great and inexpensive. I asked her about a restaurant called Mother's that I had heard so much about. She told me that I wouldn't want to eat at Mother's because the food is overrated and the prices are very expensive. She then went on to state that their claim to fame was only due to the singer Beyonce previously eating at the restaurant. We decided to try Bittersweet Confections.

The staff was rather rude when we arrived. I just simply wanted a Veggie omelet, however I couldn't find one on the menu. I settled for some sort of scramble that they offered with a mimosas. My husband ordered the Big Easy breakfast and an orange juice. The food came to $39 some change. They gave us our drinks and a number card. We had a seat right across from the register.

We waited for over 35 minutes for our breakfast! That is saying a lot because let's be clear; The restaurant/bakery is very small and there was barely anyone there. I finally got up and went to the counter in outrage because a couple who had only came in 10 minutes before I approach the counter the 2nd time was being served their breakfast. I requested my money back. The cashier and I assume the manager said that they didn't understand what the issue was and that the thought we had already been served. That was completely absurd seeing as though we were sitting right across from the cashier and it was obvious we weren't eating! They gave me back $26 some change along with an apology. This is the amount minus our drinks. We then decided to go to Mother's.

Bottom line: I would never recommend this restaurant nor...

Life has its bittersweet moments, and I’ve found one of the sweetest right here on Magazine Street. I’m in New Orleans for medical treatment for the next several months, and while my journey hasn’t been the easiest, I’ve discovered that kindness can be as comforting as chocolate.

A few dear friends ordered a dozen cupcakes from Bittersweet Confections, and when one of the owners, Cheryl, heard I was sick, she personally added me to their delivery route, just because. I can’t promise that kind of door to door service for everyone (I happened to live a few blocks away), but the gesture itself meant more than words can say.

I opted to pick them up and eventually, I ventured out for some fresh air and walked to the shop myself. Inside, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the kind of place where you instantly feel like a regular. Jake and Grace treated me (and everyone else) with genuine Southern hospitality. You can tell they love what they do, and it shows in every cup of coffee and crumb of cake.

Now, technically, sweets are off limits for me right now but let’s just say resistance crumbled after one look at their cupcakes. I took a few bites of the Red Velvet and chocolate with a coconut frosting, and they were so good. The rest I shared with my nurses, who agreed that Bittersweet’s confections are pure medicine for the soul.

For now, I’m savoring the occasional breakfast and the comforting smiles that come with it. When I finish my treatment, you can bet I’ll be celebrating here one perfectly sweet bite at a time.

Bittersweet Confections is more than a bakery, it’s a reminder that kindness and connection are the sweetest...
