So many things went wrong...
We had a server I'm not going to name him but I will call him "John" for this review. John said he has only been there a week and that was evident by all of the fires going on at his tables. Though nice, we noticed quickly that things were going left.
We were taken back quickly, John took a while to greet us and he was notably in the weeds. He took a while to get our water and coke. My cup was dirty I asked for another. My silverware was dirty as well. We ordered the raw and chargrilled oysters with crab first.
He took a really long time to come back and get our order. When he did he tried to take our appetizer order again. Obviously confused, we led him to take our main course order. He said I could not substitute the potatoes for the Red fish meal and so I opted for gumbo and salad. My husband ordered the chowder, a different salad and gator wings. He tried (poorly) to upsell me, but because of the lack of knowledge and poor presentation it did not work.
My husband ran out of his coke, it never got refilled. Our oysters came they did not come with crackers, Tabasco, mini forks, small plates or anything. We literally had to ask. I asked John for Tabasco and he brought hot sauce. Clearly not knowing the difference I asked the service partner for the Tabasco.
Food expo ran our food out. My husband got all of his food and my gumbo came out. The gumbo is advertised as a "seafood" and sausage gumbo. I had a half shrimp and mostly sausage and rice. When asked John told me I would've had to add the seafood for another $30, to the CUP I already had. That did not make any sense. He said they stopped putting the seafood in because of "allergies" but they still use the "base." Again, no sense at all because you wouldn't order something you are knowingly allergic to...My salad never made it. John didn't notice until I brought it to his attention and after 30 mins I asked he cancel it.
Tables around us had other issues with checks or something else. John blamed everyone else and brought their problems over to us. The service partners tried to cover for him and even lied for him. John also lied about several things. If fake it till you almost make it was a person; it was him.
The check came John never involved a manager but only charged us for oysters. At that point I was ready to go. John is a HORRIBLE server, but he was so nice. Maybe he should host because it was beyond bad.
My husbands soup had no flavor, temperatures were off, just totally bad experience. It made me not want to purchase anything else. I almost kicked my husband under the table when he was curious about "dessert" I didn't want to be further disappointed or order another thing that...
Read moreA couple of weeks ago, my brother and I were in the quarter and decided to have lunch. I had always wanted to try Bourbon House, so we did. First of all, the restaurant is really nicely designed and has a great "feel". Unfortunately, the service we received did not match up with that. It started after we were sat and waited quite some tune before anybody came by the table. Was it busy? No. It was lunch on a Wednesday and there we only a few tables. So I don't know why it took 10 - 15 minutes to be greeted. But, whatever, I'm not that picky. We were taking that time to look over the menu. When our waitress finally showed up, she was unfriendly and spoke so low to where we could barely hear her. We both ordered a beer to start. She said they are working on something in the back (I don't remember her exact words) and it would be a "few minutes" do we want to wait or get something else. We'll, we were fine waiting a "few minutes". No big deal. "Several" minutes later we saw our waitress again and inquired about the beers. She said it would still be aa "few more minutes". We looked at each other briefly (cause we were both thinking the same thing), but when we looked back at the waitress to change our drink order, she had already walked off! She was just gone. So there we sat, no drinks at all. Now here comes the food (brought by another server). We started eating with nothing to drink, thinking surely she will stop by soon to see how everything came out. It was not soon. We wound up flagging down another waitress to ask if she could get us a couple of soft drinks. She said ok, what would we like. I ordered a Barques Red Cream Soda and my brother ordered a coke. Well, after a few minutes, that same waitress came back with a Dr Pepper. 1 Dr Pepper! She said they were out of the red cream soda. First of all, why would you randomly bring me a Dr Pepper as it is not at all similar to what I ordered. Like, did she flip a coin or something? And, my brother still had no drink. It all happened so quickly and she ran off so fast that my brother couldn't even get the words "where's my coke" out of his mouth. So here we are, now finishing our food. I have a Dr Pepper I didn't order (I did drink it since I had no other option) and my brother never got a drink.....not even a water. All this being said the food was ok. If you're a tourist, you'll probably love it. If you're used to the kinda food we have down here, you may find it a little bland. A couple of my friends have said they enjoyed the food here, so maybe we just ordered poorly. Regardless, it sucks to leave such a nice looking (and not cheap)...
Read moreI've been to New Orleans countless times. It's basically like a second home for me. When I travel to different regions, I tend to try to avoid tourist traps for the most part. Bourbon House sits on Bourbon Street, and there are pretty much nothing but tourists in that portion of the city.
This go around, I was in the city visiting as part of a Bachelorette Trip. The bride-to-be decided she wanted to eat at Boubon House, a place I'd passed by many times, and if I'm being completely honest, I've never been moved to want to go inside. Nonetheless, that's where she wanted to go, and we obliged. The evening started out pretty good. We arrived for our reservation time and were seated almost immediately. We noticed there was a trio of older gentlemen moving from table to table serenading guests. The maid of honor asked them to come over and serende the bride-to-be. It was a very beautiful moment. They did amazing.
No one in our party had even been to Bourbon House, so this was a new experience for all of us. We ordered drinks, which everyone seemed to enjoy. Next, we ordered appetizers, and I personally got the Brussel Sprouts and the Bourbon Glazed Shrimp. Both were pretty good. Next up were the entrees, and this is where everything went completely left. Out of our entire party, everyone sent everything back except two people, and those to people described their food as "just bareable." I had something called Pastalaya, and it was made with orzo, shrimp, and a red sauce. The waitress informed me that it's an item that would be coming off their menu, so I don't think you can get it any longer. Everyone ordered different entrees, and they were all subpar. After sending the food back, everyone ordered brussel sprouts again because we were starving and drinking at this point, and they seemed to be the best item on the menu. Our waitress felt bad and offered everyone free creme brulee. She said it was their best dessert. It was pretty decent as well, but definitely not the best we've ever had. Our waitress was nice and accommodating, but the food was overwhelmingly not good. Ultimately, we paid for what we consumed and left. Ended up going down the street and getting slices of pizza. Needless to say, none of us will ever return to this establishment.
I really hate to give bad reviews, but this place needs revamping so bad. It has so...
