Ya’ll….. I am a foodie, love FOOD!!! All things FOOD!!!!
So when we stayed in NOLA for the night I was stoked to get downtown and EAT!!! I took my family of five here. Reviews seemed on point, food looked traditional and delicious!
As we stood in line, the manager came out to say they were short staffed and referred us to another restaurant. We understand staffing so we stayed, no worries, as we are on vacation and it’s time to relax. Let’s just roll with it.
We go in a short time later. GREAT WAITRESS!!! This young lady was KILLING IT while being very busy. The vibe inside was good too.
To the food…. Ugh…. Man…. I just wished…… I ordered the Fried Seafood Platter…. My lady for the jumbo fried shrimp, and all three of our boys got the “fried chicken”…. Portions were good, food was warm, not hot…..
But that first bite just poured all my hopes and dreams in the gutter like a flat beer on Mardi Gras. It was more bland than a modern Saturday Night Live skit. (Post Adam Sandler and Chris Farley). YA’LL!!!!!!!! THIS IS NAWLEANS!!!! GET SOME SEASONSING IN THAT BREADING!!!!!! I swear it was like I was at my white uncle Steve’s fish fry and aunt Susan put raisins in the potato salad….. that’s the level of bland we are taking about…… I HAD TO PUT SALT ON MY OWN FRIED CAJUN FOOD!!!!!!! The slaw was just mayo and chopped cabbage. The dipping sauces were in premade containers…….
If you want good home fried food, this ain’t it…. This just ain’t it!!! I made a heartier more flavored blackened fish/ fried fish/ Southern Cajun meal in my Midwest kitchen than this place…… they even have a sign that says “”ASAP, AS SOUTHERN AS POSSIBLE”…. LIEEESSSSS!!!!
Ok, end of rant, (almost, my bill was 225 for 5 people. Two adults, two teens, and a kid)
Let’s do better NOLA COOKERY!!! Yall could have a great thing!! Still give you all the...
Read moreI'm going to give a 4 here but if possible I would have given a 3.5 instead. I don't think that this was very good but it wasn't just okay either. On this trip it was towards the end of the first big push of Covid but many places were still closed. We were walking up Bourbon Street in the middle of the day where you could hear crickets chirping, very eerie. One of the places that was open was Olde Nola, so we decided to check them out.
We ordered a hurricane and a bloody Mary to drink, the crab cake appetizer, a fried shrimp po-boy, and a blackened catfish po-boy. The Hurricane was solid, good flavor and a good price. The Bloody Mary was also pretty good but nowhere near as good as a lot of other places in the area.
The Crab Cake appetizer is hard to rate because the flavor of the crab cake was good, and the crawfish cream sauce was also good, but the crab cakes themselves had no body. I expected a hard sear so that the sauce didn't make the crab cakes too mushy and that sear just wasn't there. On flavor alone, and if you don't care about eating soft on soft...it was good.
The Shrimp Po-Boy was good. I have had better, I have had worse, but it was good. Good shrimp and toppings but as usual with most po-boys, too much bread.
The Blackened Catfish Po-Boy was very good. Much better than anything else we had here, I left wishing we had just gotten another one of those. Fresh fish and just the right amount of seasoning and cooked well.
The fries were cold and we had to send them back but once they were hot, the ones with the sauce from the Crab Cakes on them were really good. Potatoes are a great vessel for anything, but a creamy sauce with crawfish, mushroom, and cheese made them...
Read moreMy cousin and friends saw a long line for this place while walking around, so we came back the next day to try. When we got there, there wasn't a line, so we were more than thrilled! We ordered quite a bit of food. Bbq shrimp, hush puppies, crab cakes, oysters, redfish cookery, and fried redfish. I ordered oysters because I was craving them and being in New Orleans, why not! However, I found these oysters to be quite blah. Nothing special and only came with cocktail sauce and horseradish. I ate them, but they weren't satisfying. Everyone at the table found the bbq shrimp to be excellent. I didn't try them but I'm glad that everyone enjoyed them. Once the food arrived, the table got real quiet, so you know people were chowing down! I first tasted the greens, and I immediately could tell they came from a can and tasted it like it! I found them to be super watery and unappetizing. The fried redfish wasn't crispy and, on top of that, had absolutely no seasoning! Again, another meal where the meat had no seasoning but all the flavor was in the sauce. I was super annoyed by this, but I found the crawfish mushroom sauce to be quite good! Now, if my fish had seasoning, was crispy, and eaten this with that sauce, I would have enjoyed my meal a little more. Hush puppies were ordered for the table, and I found this fried snack to be quite delicious! The seasoning on them were great, and when eaten with that sauce, made for a tasty morsel! Aside from that, I only enjoyed my dark and stormy drink, which was excellent! This wasn't my favorite place, but if you're looking for fried delights, a drink or a quick snack, I would say give this...
