Okay so my husband and I decided to try Snapper’s Seafood Restaurant on Canal St. We ordered (appetizer) a dozen of what they call charbroiled oysters ( which arrived after our entrees), seafood platter (missing crab) and the red snapper with potato salad and French beans. My husband seafood platter was seasoned enough to consume. Now let’s discuss my snapper. It was cooked perfectly but under seasoned, the potatoe salad texture was perfect but contained to much mustard for my liking, French beans were cooked well but also needed a little more seasoning. Now let’s talk about what we thought was chargrilled oysters. When the waiter bought them things to the table the first thing my husband and I noticed was the stiff shredded cheese on top. We both lifted the cheese from the oyster we each was about to taste and once in mouth my husband frowned up called the waiter over and asked how they were cooked. This man proceeds to say that the cooks sprinkle cheese on top and put them in the oven. We looked at each other in shock. So they are NOT chargrilled sir. The are oven baked and should be on the menu as such. The hostess was nice but the two gentlemen we encountered were not customer friendly. My husband had to ask for his drink to be refilled. Anyway at the end when the waiter asked if we want the check he asked how was the food? My husband said AWFUL. The food is great for first time visitors to New Orleans whom never tasted what real NOLA cuisine...

I was looking to try some Gumbo and I decided to try Snappers. I kind of wish I would have went in a bit earlier than I did because I think staff was focused on trying to go home which is REASONABLE. For anyone who works in a restaurant, you already know there is ALOT to do before you go home. Service was still good even though it was late.

With that being said, my gripe was with a couple of the dishes I received. I ordered the Alligator and it had ZERO flavor. I mean ZERO. 😒 It was entirely DISAPPOINTING. A little salt wouldn't have hurt anyone and I didn't like the sauce that came with it.

I also ordered the Gumbo which is the original reason I decided to go there and it wasn't HOT. It was w-a-r-m. I wish it was hot but I ate it anyway since things seemed a bit rushed. It was.....fine. I ordered the Calamari as well and I had zero complaints about it. The final thing I ordered was their frozen drinks which was tastyyyy. 🙂

Overall, I would like to revisit Snappers and try more of the menu. Maybe it was just poor timing because it was an hour before they were suppose to close. I thought I was only going to get the Gumbo, but I wanted to try more once I sat down. So I would like to give this place another chance a bit later...

Very casual atmosphere. Employees didn’t have any kind of uniform- which in fine with, but I think it speaks to how casual the place is. So don’t worry about having to dress up. Nice jazz music played throughout our visit. We were able to choose where we sat.

Got the crawfish étouffée cup and grilled red snapper as my entree. The étouffée was okay; nothing I’d order again but it wasn’t terrible. Warmed me up on a cold night, flavor was decent, barely any crawfish in the serving.

Food came out extremely fast. The red snapper itself was good. I’ve never had it before so didn’t have any compassions; it’s a rather bland fish. Flaky. The cream sauce on top was good and had more crawfish in that cream sauce than in the cup of étouffée. Ceaser salad was good. Potato salad was definitely store bought - tastes exactly like the potato salad I used to purchase from Walmart.

Our server was nice. Bathrooms were dated. The women’s restroom door doesn’t fully open; it’ll stop quickly, which I wasn’t expecting, nearly slammed my face on my way out 😂

It was alright. Not terrible. Not amazing. Probably wouldn’t visit here again but it’s good if you’re at one of the surrounding hotels and need...
