I had high hopes when we reserved a spot at & Son Steakeasy: The concept seemed cool & we both like steak. Unfortunately, the execution was off… in a word: meh The bread service we were served came with 3 “relishes”: a bacon jam, garlic confit, & egg yolk custard - none of which paired well with the bread itself. The creamed spinach side was supposed to have a Parmesan crumble on top - we couldn’t see it or taste it… but otherwise, the spinach itself was good. But the measure of a steak joint HAS to be the steak itself - and this was the disappointment. My guest’s sirloin was over cooked & poorly seasoned. Edible, but not very tasty. My Strip was cooked properly (medium NOTE: you don’t get a choice!) but was curiously pre-sliced. (Odd, but didn’t affect my review). It was a nice cut, and had promise, but was very under seasoned - leaving it a somewhat bland experience. Both came with sauce bearnaise - which tasted right, but was oddly gelatinous. The atmosphere was quite nice - cozy & somewhat elegant. The music could stand to be turned down (volume) a bit, and it was very dark (none of my photos came out well enough to add here). Our server was kind & courteous, showed us the right amount of attention, and knew the menu options well (admittedly, that wasn’t hard, given the limited menu). This dining experience didn’t ruin our evening, but it was far from the highlight we’d hoped. As a steak place, they need...
Read moreCame in for Easter brunch. Was very excited coming in and had reservations for weeks (visiting). Server was very occupied with other tables and took while to get to us - understandable - it’s a holiday. We knew our drinks and questions for food. Took 15 minutes to be then served a warm beer and mediocre bees knees (ever heard of a fine strainer?). Table next to us received same warm beer - we conversed with them and they too though service so far was weird. Our food came and we received a medium burger ( never asked for temp). At this point we are still waiting with empty water glasses and half eaten sandwiches- still have warm beer and other table next to us already has new drinks! I had to seek another seever assistant AND server at the server station to get us some water and explanation for drink. Server finally comes over and blames everything from time away from table and the beer on them. At this point I’ve lost my appetite and we are visibly not happy. Server comes for a final time and says “are we rocking?” No bud. Your professionalism and blame shifting ruined our experience. Paid my bill - 0% tip - something I’ve NEVER done and hope I won’t...
Read moreThe food was good. But, there were too many things that were "off". First, we were "up sold" on a steak dinner when we came in for the Wednesday Martini deal. Fine. Second, when my party of 4 ordered 3 drinks, the first two came out in a timely manner, but the 3rd only arrived after the starters came out and we had to inquire where it was. Third, the sauce options weren't brought out until we had each eaten about 1/4 of our steaks. Fourth, the bill was wrong. We came for the sirloin martini deal, but got up sold to sirloin steak dinner. We each said "sirloin". We got sirloins. When the bill came, we were charged for strips (about $75 more than what we asked for or received). Our server told us that we said, "strip". We kindly replied that we indeed said "sirloin" and that's what we got. Our server pushed back again. And we again stood firm. Finally, our server went back into their notes and saw that we did, in fact, order sirloin. There were just too many little thing that went wrong. But, having to argue about a bill was the driving factor in a low rating. I'm not...
