Updated Review (5/7/2024): After returning, I have to say that they’ve definitely listened to their customers’ feedback! Food is piping hot especially for dine in, and food is prepared fresh.
I try out their dim sum, and they’re surprisingly well made in house. I love their Shrimp Dumplings! The congee is also pretty good. It’s not watery, and the level of saltiness is just right. Keep up the good work!
Original Review (5/2/2024):
1468 Hylan Cafe recently opened, and it’s great to see another restaurant that not only offers Chinese BBQ roast meat, but also dim sum and baked goods! A good variety indeed, but unfortunately it falls a little short on certain categories.
Let’s start with the positives. Their Wonton Noodle Soup is highly recommended! The soup is great, the noodle isn’t clumped together or over prepared (it’s pretty firm), and the wonton filling is decent.
Their Brined Pork Belly is pretty crispy and not too salty. However, there is a bit of rawness to it (slight red on certain portion), yet very edible. It’s probably their best tasting meat so far on their Siu Mei menu.
Now for the negatives. I have tried the classic Chicken & Broccoli over Rice, and it’s just so and so. The dish is cold, and there’s not enough sauce. The chicken is also pretty dry. Broccoli is also not fresh. I also order a Spareribs & Broccoli over Rice, and again, not enough sauce and needs more seasoning.
Overall, it’s a decent restaurant. Hopefully, they refine their menu and meal preparation. Food...
Read moreThis cafe has authentic Cantonese food and it is SO delicious! The star of the show is their roast pork, roasted pig (crispy skin), and roast duck leg! Other items we ordered: Asian vegetables (choy sum), beef fried noodle, shu mai, shrimp rice noodle, and chicken feet. They have sauces on the table for you (soysauce, chili oil, hot sauce). They do sit down (4 seaters and a bar stool area) or take out. They also have a selection of steam buns that you can take home to steam (bbq roast pork bun, pork bun, chicken bun etc), we got the steam pork bun and it was delicious! It had bits of shrimp in it too! We microwaved it at home. They also have baked goods like pineapple bun, custard pineapple bun, hot dog bun and so on. Prices are reasonable! I will come back! The staff are so nice and attentive. When you come here you MUST get a roasted meat with rice!!! Staff speaks English, Cantonese, and mandarin.
They have a parking lot. Credit card (no extra fee) and cash accepted.
For people who don’t usually eat this and don’t know what to order: —Entrees: get the roast pork over rice, crispy beef noodles (stir fry), wonton noodle soup with wonton in soup, beef chow fun (dry or gravy style) —Dimsum: egg tart (like Portuguese egg tarts), shrimp dumplings, siu mai —Drinks: ice lemon tea (will taste...
Read moreCame here late Sunday Afternoon and it was popping! Every table was full by the time we sat down. Service was super quick, from ordering to our food being served was about 15 minutes. We got the three bbq appetizer platter (scallion chicken, bbq duck, and suckling pig). Holy the scallion chicken was so juicy and tender and the scallion sauce added just the right amount of flavor. We got the rice noodle wrapped fried dough. The fried dough was super crispy and the rice noddle was super silky (reminded me of dim sum places I had in China :)) The leek shrimp dumplings came out piping hot and juicy. My boyfriend and I kept saying mmmm the whole time with each bite. Last but not least, you could really taste the WOK HEI in the beef chow fun. Every noodle was coated with sauce. The portion was so big we had a lot to take home after.😌They also have a wide selection of Chinese baked goods which we did also grab some to go and oofff was it delicious. Can’t wait to be back and overall extremely happy to not have to make the drive to Bk for...
