My other half and I discovered this hidden gem during one of our detours after having coffee on Arthur Avenue. We diverted from walking towards the car and decided to walk in another direction. At this time during COVID-19 restaurants were still only open for outdoor service. This restaurant caught our attention because they had such cute private bubbles set up outside that also offered heating. Before we knew it we were in a bubble under the snow enjoying a romantic evening. Since out first visit we never had a meal that disappointed us, you can expect a relaxing ambiance and personable service. In little to no time we found this bubble becoming our own bubble away from home for future nights out. The restaurant currently doesn't have the bubble, however the indoor dining is beautiful and safe according to COVID-19 dining regulations. I enjoy sitting by the window or the beautiful wine wall that is multifunctional and storing some of the restaurants fine wine. Hopefully next winter we will return to our bubble on a snowy day. What brings us back to the restaurant is the consistently reliable quality service and perfectly made food. We both work hard throughout the week and we enjoy having an evening out where we're being provided an intimate feeling of "breaking bread" without having to prepare or serve one another. What we love about this restaurant is that it supports the experience of sharing a meal with a loved one in a friendly inviting atmosphere. If Marco is your server you will also leave there learning something new about Italian trattoria styled dining and plethora of interesting information on food or history. During our last visit he took us on a stroll down history lane teaching us about the history if the local neighborhood also known as the "The little Italy of The Bronx". The neighborhood itself is very diverse and includes a strong Italian, Latino and Albanian presence. Another population of people you will observe are clusters of Fordham University students. This is a great restaurant to go to on a visit to your childs school, the zoo and if your local you should add it to you list of "go to places" on days you're...
Read moreThis place is phenomenal. I'd been hearing for years about the Italian restaurant scene on Arthur Avenue and finally decided to head up with my girlfriend and try a place, so in the week leading up to our trip I looked at reviews of restaurants in the area. I did a double take when I saw Antonio's had a perfect 5-star rating on Google with as many as 60 reviews. I'd never seen uniform acclaim like that before for a restaurant, people usually go online to badmouth places. So naturally that was where I had to go. And let me tell you, even with high expectations it was better than I could have imagined. The small margherita pizza we had as a starter was superior to half the hipster dumps in Brooklyn, and they treat you a lot better at Antonio's too. As other reviewers have mentioned, you really feel like family there and we had waiters coming by all the time to chat and ask if we needed anything. In addition to the pizza we had an endive and gorgonzola salad, which was shockingly delicious. My shrimp parmigiana was flavorful and not overly fried, though it was understandably filling... I'd already eaten so much by this point! My girlfriend's rigatoni norma was really exceptional; most Italian places are nonchalant when it comes to meatless pasta dishes, but this was even better than my shrimp. Though we were practically bursting by the end, we had to try dessert, so we got one of the better cannolis I've had in the U.S. (certainly the best in a non-bakery restaurant). And to top it all off, the waiter answered our curiosity about the crema al caffe machine by giving us a generous free sample. We got way too much food for two people to eat, and it ended up being $67 plus tip. Isn't that insane? Easily the best Italian meal I've ever had, and needless to say I'll be going back as soon...
Read moreThis restaurant came very highly recommended and was disappointing in absolutely every regard. At first I wasn't going to review because we visited on a Saturday night at the height of the crowd. I didn't think it was fair to rate them at their busiest most difficult time... But that's when most people go to the restaurant. I had arranged dinner for my girlfriend, my son and hers, and for them to bring her a birthday dessert a week prior. First, they were half hour late with our reservation, took forever to bring our order, difficult to get a waiters attention and a long wait for food which was quite honestly less than mediocre. Seriously better food at the Olive garden... And I hate going to the Olive garden because any neighborhood Italian place is better... Except this one. An Italian joint that can't even get chicken parm right??? Soggy and bland. And did I mention that because we had so many different waiters taking orders and bringing food and switching tables that they screwed up didn't bring us all of our food and forgot to put a candle and my girlfriend's dessert or sing happy birthday even after I reminded them they twice. Like I said, felt bad judging them at their busiest time but it didn't stop them from charging top dollar for less than mediocre food and poor service. Of course I still tipped 20%, the waiters may not have been doing a good job but they were working hard. This has to fall on management. I will not be back and wouldn't encourage anyone else to go back unless this place can figure out how to get their x straight. This is just off Arthur avenue. There are way, way too many good alternatives...
