If I could only review this restaurant for the food alone it was be a five but tonightâs experience was really horrible. Iâm not sure who the gentlemen at the front was taking orders but because of him I probably wonât ever go back. I had placed an order over the phone and when I got there I was with my sister. She was outside with our dog as I went inside and paid the gentlemen in cash 42 dollars. My sister canât stand for that long so I switched with her so she can come inside while I look out for the dog.
We do not live close to this place we live about 10 blocks away but we made the walk anyways because we have been here before. Once we got home we realized that the order was wrong. There was no receipt in the front of the bag but yet on the bottom of that bag with the name Kim. I called the restaurant and the guy picked up I said you guys gave me the wrong order and he said âsweetie your sister gave me the wrong name I asked for Kim and she said yeahâ and than says well if you want your Food you can come get it. Not even an apology for the miscommunication and also I am not his sweetie
I walked back and I asked him if he knew my order was wrong how come he didnât call me back. He again proceeds to say my sister was wrong because she gave him the name Kim and that he doesnât have my number and I gave him attitude first. My order was wrong it wasnât right regardless if my sister said yes to the name Kim. He clearly knew it wasnât mine because he said he went outside to look for me but I was gone. But yet couldnât bother to look up my number to call. wouldnât you be upset if you had to walk another 10 blocks back for your food. I told him I gave him 42 dollars of food but yet the bag I received was a drink and a burger thatâs 42 dollars ? Even if my sister misheard why couldnât he just apologize that yes I gave the wrong bag but maybe your sister misheard.
If I never called or came back would I have gotten my money back ?
Never once did he acknowledge what he did wrong but yet blamed us the whole time. And I work in retail and I understand people make mistakes. But maybe if he wasnât the only person in the front and understaffed maybe the error wouldnât have been made.
Arepa lady do better for your staff...
Read moreThis is a Family owned and operated restaurant proudly serving the Jackson Heights community for over 25 years. This family has taken what is normally, a very humble and traditional dish from Colombia, The Arepa, and changed the aspect of this once indigenous staple, from a flat white flavorless disc of corn paste made in a toaster oven, basically a corn matzo bread in it's flavor profile, to a gloriously cheesy, griddle toasted, sweet corn plateau on which to build on. On this plateau meats and cheese dance to a symphony of your choice, Fresh Grilled Chicken, Colombian Chorizo, Chicharron (Pork Crackling to the nth power) or if you don't eat or want meat straight Cheese. BTW, they are Gluten Free!
All Arepas are made to order, no heat lamp flavors ever. They are all served with 3 magnificent homemade sauces. Sweet, savory and tangy to fit all flavor profiles. Hot sauce is on the table as well. The staff is very friendly and courteous, quick to make sure you are happy with your meal and to refill you glass of water. Cleanliness is a virtue in this establishment.
It's taken me years to write a review because I don't want the place to get to busy (as if I have some clout lol). Jokes aside, It is a great place to eat with...
Read morePlace: Medium-sized restaurant with tables varying from couples to groups of 8 (potential for more). Center of Jackson Heights, so good luck with parking! Very close to the subway stations anyhow. Single-room bathroom, very spacious and clean. Spacious layout so wheelchair and stroller-friendly!
Food: It was phenomenal. Everything. My group of 5 (+1 toddler) loved all of our dishes - mini empanadas (beef, cheese, chicken), guacamole with fried arepas (!!!!!!!!), street corn, chicharron, etc. Best arepas we have all ever had.
Drinks: We ordered a pitcher of passion fruit sangria and it was refreshing, good amount for ~1.5 glasses per person. Not too potent, but enough for a very light buzz for the non-frequent-drinker. Sangrias and margaritas are machine-mixed.
Price: Affordable - for a group of 5.5, each eating at least two appetizers or appetizer/entree, plus pitcher = ~$140
Service: Very friendly crew. Our server and host were relaxed, let us take our time, and the food came out pretty quickly with great quality.
Highly recommend!! Canât wait to...
