Stand Alone Cheese — Local services in New York

I stopped by this store on Thursday, December 21st to purchase one item I’d originally placed online for a pick-up order a few weeks ago.

I noticed it’s a small store, so I actually walked in. The store is very small and quaint.

I wasn’t greeted at all, in fact I walked in and said hi. Look at my picture, you can see my face clearly.

I think the male owner and the female owner were actually surprised to see me, walk into their shop. The vibe inside was really off to me. They were helping a white woman, who purchased some goods and a white man walked in after me, they said hello to him and seemed like they preferred to deal with him.

The female owner actually helped me but the male owner, with the mousy brown curls, looked like he didn’t want to bother with me.

The entire experience is sad because had the customer service treatment been better, I would’ve given them a much better review since they had a few quality items.

When the man gave me the bag with the items I purchased, I couldn’t say thank you before leaving as I did feel rushed.

It felt passive aggressive to me, especially since they are a small business. I live in Brooklyn, so I would’ve made the trek out here to Queens since I actually liked the products that I purchased.

Needless to say, I wouldn’t be back. I just didn’t have a good experience there. The shop is very small, I mean very small. It doesn’t look the cleanest either but because they are pretty niche, it seems to work for them.

I’ve been a customer since the very beginning and I’m so happy I don’t need to commute to Manhattan to buy products of very high quality. They have just the right amount of goods to make our lives better - trust me ! Their variety of cheese is just fair and the charcuterie never disappoints. The couple is very polite , resourceful and they are always there for you , to answer your questions and , in case you need a good suggestion, you will be surprise on how they really know the business they’re running - very rare in this kind of gastronomic field, where some people who sell have no idea what they’re doing. Honestly, they don't even need this review. Many other people have confirmed what a gem this place is. The selection is phenomenal. Prices are reasonable considering that you are getting artisinal food. They deserve special mention for staying open the entire time during the COVID-19 pandemic. The major change is that they ask you to order in advance and pay over the phone for safety. Most stores in the area closed. Not Stand Alone. For that alone I am eternally grateful.
