My coworkers and I frequently visit this restaurant and usually have great service and great food and drinks, however today was a change of perception that we have of this restaurant. We were greeted by a nice hostess who took us to our table. We sat down looked over our menus and waited for our server to come. Andres, our server came to the table and introduced himself and then took our orders. One of my coworkers ordered the nachos but without the chile it comes with since it had jalapenos and last time it was too spicy for her. Andres attempted to correct her and say it is not spicy and she would like it but she asserted herself and asked for it without the chile. I asked what dipping sauce came with the wings and he said bbq, but the dish came with a crema dipping sauce and the wings were covered with bbq and misinformed me of the order. I also asked for a cup of ice but he didn't bring it and forgot and I asked for a cup of ice again 15 min later when the food came. I then asked for hot sauce but he didn't bring it either until my coworker had to flag him down to ask him for the hot sauce around 10 minutes later. Afterwards we finished eating and had our plates on the table for quite some time. We wanted to order drinks but he did not come to our table for what seems like another 15 minutes and we were wanting to order drinks. We eventually got the attention after the hostess saw us and he came to the table and asked "were you guys looking for me?" which irritated many of us but we remained calm. He came by and only refilled our water 3 times during the whole meal and we had to ask for water constantly but did not receive any except those 3 times. Eventually the bill came and he had asked us about how the service was, since it was on a company card we typically leave tip on the separate bill with the drinks and the food with no tip on our main bill because of our company spending cap. He saw we left no tip on the food bill before we finish paying the drink tabs and asks us about the service and we stay silent for a moment until we try to explain what could have been better. One coworker started talking about the cup of ice and was about to continue but was cut off by Andres who replied with sarcasm with saying "Okay I'll tell them this was all over a cup of ice". At that moment we decided to not leave a tip on the separate bill. Andres went to go speak to his other coworkers within earshot of us and talked badly about us and we replied with asking him to get the manager if he wants to continue the conversation, which him and his coworkers had all stayed silent and in the same place after that moment. This had become the regular spot for our company outings for lunch or happy hour, however after this moment we have all come to an agreement that this is no longer the same place we all fell in love with. It's sad to say that one bad experience like this ruined what we all found a fun and enjoyable place filled with good...
Read moreLet's see. Bar Mexicana is THE place to go if you're near Times Square for either a show or a date or whatever. They are highlighting authentic cuisine in a fun environment while also paying attention to supporting small local businesses.* If for nothing else, you should check it out for their Sotol. Mezcal and tequila are becoming unsustainable in the age of American Consumerism, so do your part and check out other great Mexican Spirits. The Sotol Sour being a definite must in their cocktail list.
The guacamole is fresh and you taste the avocado, no avocado pureed into oblivion. The salsa is tangy, limey, fresh. Great balance to the warm, salted totopos. The tacos!!! Small but mighty as they should be. Have 3 or 4 as a meal and you won't be disappointed. Each bite is filled with flavor, a slight crunch on the tortilla adds to that bite to be packed with textures and flavors of my native land. *The tacos are made with tortillas from a Sobre Masa in Brooklyn which you should also check out if you find yourself in Williamsburg. Both are great places highlighting Mexico in some of the best ways in NYC. Staff is super friendly and they know what they're doing. Came on a slower night and the service was still impeccable. Smiling and knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Love having this new place as an option in the...
Read moreThe image in the photo seen above showing a restaurant with a huge lamp shade was not on display when I was there. See my photos. I ordered the "Fajitas Carne" (medium), the meat was tender and tasty. The surrounding cooked sweet peppers on that plate had little to no taste. The refried beans were not to my liking and the rice had no noticeable taste. It was not busy at all, almost no one in the restaurant at 2:15 in the afternoon, but the service was VERY POOR before and after I received the food at my table. Another issue was the mobile credit card charger. My bill should have shown on the charger an amount of $25.05 with an option to choose a 18% or 20% or customize a tip. Instead, the mobile charger highlighted the dollar total reflecting a 20% tip, leaving a quick look impression that highlighted dollar amount was what I owed. People in a hurry or not paying close attention might press that button, unaware of the facts. On another issue, I had a reservation there through OpenTable, I was supposed to get OpenTable points for that dine, but because of incompetence at the restaurant, I did not, even though I went back there...
