I started out having a nice interaction with this bakery, I was hosting a housewarming party and the one thing I wanted: unicorn cupcakes. The online ordering process and interaction via email was very easy and seamless. My only stipulation was I needed to pick these up around 10 AM Sunday. This was Sunday July 1st.
When Sunday, the morning of my party rolled around – my husband and I went to Betty bakery to pick up our cupcakes. When we got inside, the gentleman Baker told us that there was a huge problem. Someone misread the order and instead of 25 unicorn cupcakes, there were 25 regular chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with plain frosting; with one unicorn cupcake. We were extremely disappointed but we were rushed with our party. The Baker unfortunately did not offer to reimburse us for the difference of plain cupcakes and unicorn, he said he could make the unicorn cupcakes... but by the time they would be done our party would be well in swing. He wasn’t rude, but he certainly didn’t offer an apology; and even after a phone call to the bakery the next day (no answer) we haven’t heard back from them.
Be wary when using this bakery, you might not get what you paid for and you certainly won’t get reimbursed for the difference, it’s unfortunate because it’s a really cute setting, the cupcakes were good... BUT I expected much more from the customer service. Bummer... but the neighborhood has many other options; I would suggest you check them out first before...
Read moreI'm giving Betty Bakery a 3 Star for now. I came for a slice of cake but decided on an individual Cherry Pie. I appreciated they offered some savory items as well, which is not typical of bakeries-kudos. They offer common cakes like Red Velvet, Carrot Cake, Vanilla (with some rainbow sprinkles), and and their version of Coconut Cake. I was looking for more of a seasonal flavor cake. There are cookies, bars and an array of other baked goods.
It's true prices have gone up, however, customer service should always be kind and genuine. And, because it's a scratch bakery, not all baked good look exactly alike, which is hallmark of a scratch bakery. It's always best to ask the customer if there's a slice, a bar, or piece of pie they see they prefer. We do eat with our eyes first. Unfortunately, that was not the case when I patronized the bakery. Note, they were not busy. One customer came in and I kindly suggested they be attended as I was still deciding. When I suggested the pie I'd like to buy, the bakery attendant mentioned she already grabbed one. And, they were not too happy to grab the one I wanted to buy. I thanked them for grabbing the pie and they didn't bother to say Thank You or make any eye contact. Cost of goods have gone up, but having to pay for bad service shouldn't be factored in that.
I'll return and try their cake as I like to give businesses...
Read moreThough I don’t usually write reviews, I felt compelled to after hearing of others’ unpleasant experiences and, soon after, having one of my own.
After craving pie, I travelled to Betty Bakery as it is marketed as having much to offer in its pie department. I bought a cherry pie. Since there are not many places in Brooklyn that offer mini pies at their frequency, you can only imagine how repulsed and additionally confused I was to find the state of this pie; dough raw and inedible, the pie filling being canned cherries, and an icky pool of cherry liquid sogging and soaking the entire bottom of my box as well as the pie. Before I got a chance to even give this pie the benefit of the doubt it fell apart.
The truth of the matter is, Betty Bakery is on a steady decline — in customer service, in quality—which should ALWAYS be over quantity—and in passion for what they do. As I have been a member of the community for quite sometime, the general consensus is that people are gravitating away from Betty in order to avoid the sour attitude of the owner who seems to have not a bone of pleasantry in his body for the good people he serves. If the nastiness of this guy hasn’t turned you away, let the lack of freshness being sold in a bakery that claims to be fresh...
