Updated July 2023: Came back as it was a favourite of the crew. Same vibe and decent food. Was it just me, but the food got incredibly salty in the pasta to the salad. The service also felt like it took a step back as well with the server making a face when asked to take away a dirty glass wear. Only saving grace of the meal was the crudo as it was luscious and fresh. June 2019: Small menu that is executed well. Starters included: pork ribs (served cold to us, probably a mistake), shishito peppers, calamari with a marinara sauce and branzino crudo were simple and well done. I had the char that was beautifully seared (picture below), but the sides to the mains were more or less a repeat of the starters that was ordered (hence the 5th star was not achieved). Note, it is a very Brooklyn style joint, so expect small cramped space and loud environment (due to zero or minimal acoustic mod to the space).

We had been wanting to try this restaurant and finally got a chance to visit. After calling 10 times to get on waitlist without anyone answering the phone, we decided to just try our luck. It was pretty empty at 12pm on Saturday. Staff are friendly, but seem a little chaotic. I ordered a drink and waited for 20 mins and they still came to ask me what I want to drink. After finally getting settled with drinks, we wanted to order some pasta, but they said they ran out of pasta. It's a crime that an Italian restaurant ran out of pasta, especially when they only sell one kind of pasta on Saturday morning. We ordered some sandwiches; the grilled cheese was really nice and comforting, while the roast pork was a bit dry. Bloody Mary was a little disappointing, but the New Rider and Negroni were awesome. The food was not too bad in general, but too hit or miss to warrant a return....

Unfortunately, I will never again eat here. The service we received last night was atrocious.

We arrived as a walk-in (no reservation) before the dinner rush, there were three of us, and were immediately seated at a table. As soon as we sat, the hostess came back over to us and explained that the couple who had just walked in were a table of four, she asked us to move to the communal table. Generally, I would be put off by this, but we were happy to accommodate, though it was kind of tactless.

However, when we sat at the communal table, over the next 15 min we were ignored by everyone in the restaurant. The couple who was given our original table received water, they made a wine selection, received bread AND their wine... AND ordered and received an appetizer before anyone even acknowledged our presence (and I want to note the second half of their party didn't arrive for another 20 minutes). I was literally making note of all of this after I became more and more upset.

During this period, they were setting the communal table for a big group. While we were sitting and waiting, a server dropped bottles of water for the expected group at the table (none of which had shown up at this point) my husband stood up and grabbed a bottle of water that was set out on the table, this because in the 15 min wait, none had bothered to bring us water. When the waiter noticed my husband doing this, he glared annoyingly at us and aggressively replaced the bottle of water. I was absolutely shocked.

We were about to walk out when a server finally came over at about 18 min of waiting, and took our drink orders. It was at this time the large group started to arrive. The restaurant immediately became so crowded that the servers had to inch their way behind me to work and they were constantly hitting my arms and back. We received our drinks as my husband tried to tell the server that we were ready to order, they had rushed off again, and waited for another 7 min... before they came back around. Still no bread, and the bottle of water we had acquired on our own was long gone.

At this point we were so upset, we decided to leave. My husband talked to the waiter about all this, and asked for the check... not one apology, nothing. Even the hostess ignored us and our obvious dissatisfaction with the way we were treated.

Listen, their food may be good but the service is horrendous, there are so many gems in this neighborhood that treat their customers like family. It's a shame this place misses the boat. Final warning: avoid Rucola it's just not...

Came here for New Years Eve last night with three friends. The service was nice, friendly and attentive staff. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and we definitely got sat at the best table. I also thought the timing of food was well paced. However, most of the actual food was foul. As this was NYE, our reservation was at 10:30pm so that we could ring in the New Year together at Rucola. We all came very hungry. The first course, a chestnut arancini, was inedible. A woman, who I believe was the manager, did come by to check on us while we were eating this and we shared with her that we didn’t like it. She apologized and said she would make up for it. The second course was a poached pear salad, which was edible but mediocre. All of us finished the salad, though I think it was just because we were hungry and not because it was enjoyable. The third course was Cacio e Pepe, which was very soupy and tasted like a simple mac and cheese. The fourth course was Arctic char. The fish was cooked nicely. This was the best thing we had, though that is not saying much, and it is nothing that I would go back for. The last course was a chocolate mouse, which was alright, I love chocolate and I only ate about a third. My friend specified no egg in her dishes and this course for her was a dragonfruit coffee sorbet. It came out nearly melted and just looked entirely unappetizing.

I will say that the menu was prefix for NYE. I have not dined at this restaurant while they were serving their normal menu, and after the experience I had, I wouldn’t. The woman did keep coming back to check on us and I think she could probably tell that we were unimpressed. She comped one mixed drink, and poured some extra wine into the glasses of the two of us that were having wine. I understand and appreciate that she was attempting to rectify our experience, though I was not all that enthused about the wine to begin with and certainly did not want more. She poured into our glasses, that were still half full, without even asking first.

I am someone who is willing to pay decent money for good food. That said, I would have been disappointment if I had spent $50 on this meal, and I spent $180. Not...

My friends, family, and I went out to dinner on the 10th of December. We were looking for a good place with great Italian food and Rucola caught our eyes because of the great reviews associated with it. We were shocked that for a restaurant with such high reviews and prices, every little thing had a extremely negative flaw. To begin with, the customer service was absolutely terrible. From the second we walked into the restaurant, we received disaproving glances from the staff and despicable attitudes to go along with it. We felt completely unwelcomed and asking for a table felt like a favor. Even after this inconvenience we said we will continue to give the place a try. We sat down and grabbed the menu and we couldn't help but notice the extremely limited menu with little to no options. If I recall properly there were 2 options for pasta at a supposed excellent Italian restaurant. We get our server and she takes our orders. We get bread which every decent Italian restaurant serves, but since it was a group of 5, one bowl of bread wasn't really enough. So we ask for more. It felt as we were asking for the biggest favor when we asked. Such a nasty attitude was directed at us. This is where the worst part comes in. Personally myself, I had the rigatoni and it was honestly awful. It tasted as if ground beef was put onto under cooked pasta noodles. For a bowl like this, the price was extremely alarming. The chicken that my mother had was also equally awful. It honestly tasted like cardboard with the hardest sweet potato underneath. Honestly I will not be coming back to Rucola in Brooklyn and I feel bad for those who like us, expected more and better from...
