The renovation is very nice but this theater is a risk for true cinephiles who expect quality projection.
Last night I went to see the new 70mm print of Vertigo. Before the film, some curator from the theater got up onstage and read an email from Bernard Hermann's daughter, the main theme of which was "My dad hated Jimmy Stewart as the lead in this film." Which made the audience laugh and basically set up the entire screening as a sort of comedy where we would judge for ourselves if Jimmy Stewart sucked or not.
First of all, why does anyone do pre-screening talks? They NEVER work and only serve to poorly influence the audience.
Second, it just looks bad when a representative of the theater gets onstage and completely undermines the film they are about to present.
Then, during the screening, there were two bad reel changes. One resulted in a momentary sprocket error where the film was split horizontally for a brief moment.
And then, believe it or not, I'm guessing the projectionist was playing around with their phone because they COMPLETELY missed the next reel change. The film literally sprockets right out of the projector and we got a black out, countdown numbers, and could see the tail ends of the reel as it exited the projector. I seriously thought the screening was completely ruined, and waited for someone to come in and say there would be a delay, but thankfully the intrepid projector started the next reel and the rest of the film was ok.
Finally, I believe there was a shutter timing misadjustment on the projector because the image was flickering rapidly for the whole show.
All in all it felt like amateur hour all around, and a true shame for a theater that advertised itself as being at the forefront of 70mm with all these restored new prints coming to the house. I'm not giving up on the Paris yet but so far I'm...

I am writing to let you know a serious misbehavior of one of your employees and with the hope of a change. I came with a friend to see the new Pavarotti movie tonight June 19 7:15 pm show. As the movie finished and I was leaving, I run into a couple, the husband being one of worldsās important painter who honored me with his friendship. We stopped to say hi each other briefly, and the woman who was working In the theatre (small built, dark curly hair with glasses), very rudely and impatiently came twice to make us to leave-mind you this was nowhere near the next show and we were on no ones way.
What was worse, my friend came with me (an elderly lady in her 80s) was using the bathroom. your employee first of all made me went to check, as I checked outside she locked me out of the theatre(how about that). Then she went down to bathroom practically chased out my friend and threw us out. I told her āyou do not need to lock the doorā her response was āthe door needs to be Lockedā and gave us a sarcastic look. Mind you this is still far from the start of the next show.
This is just too ugly to not to take my time reporting to you. I simply do not know why would she deserve to be working here or anywhere else. We come here often, and would appreciate if we would never be encountered with this kind of food unhappy, unkind, unprofessional people, and have such abnormally irritating and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Paris Theatre is absolutely phenomenal! From the outside ticket booth that made me feel almost transformed to the theatreās early days- to the delicious snacks offered- to the big, comfy seats- to the perfect temperature during the movie- to the huge screen and great sound system. Everything was perfect!
It is a bit pricey, but youāre paying for the quality experience.
The actual theatre is on the main floor, as are the restrooms. Follow a small staircase to a lower level and youāll find the small concession stand- with all the usual movie theatre snacks (candy, popcorn, soda)⦠and then cappuccino!Made me feel like the royalty that I am. š āØ
I went on Thanksgiving evening to see āThe Unforgivableā- there were literally only 5 other moviegoers so we had our pick of whatever seat we wanted! Iād definitely recommend coming on an off-day or when there are less guests. Itās so much more fun- and relaxing!
There were about 4 or 5 total staff members, and they were super friendly, accommodating and very professional. The lovely young lady at the concession stand was a pleasure to meet- so down-to-earth, kind and an overall gentle soul. āØ
From nearby Central Park, to the horse drawn carriages, to the luxury shops nearby and their exquisite window displays- youāll find even more to do in the area after the movie ends.
I had a great experience, and guarantee you will you! 5...
