Prefacing by saying I'm not from NYC, though I visit the city regularly looking for new restaurants to try and foods to explore.
And I do love a good bagel sandwich. Can't argue with these bagels. There was a long line extending outside on a Sunday morning, and it was a little brisk outside, but I was hungry, curious, and ready for breakfast.
Liberty Bagels was between where I was and my destination, with great reviews here on Google, so I waited in line.
It was very crowded inside so I didn't stick around, although my sausage, egg, and cheese on their warm "liberty" bagel was really, really good and worth the wait 🤤 Some natives in the city will definitely argue for other bagel spots, but this was fantastic, as well.
I walked up Upper East Side casually munching on this sandwich and feeling like there was nothing in this world going wrong.
Tender, twisty, & hand-rolled dough, juicy meat, gooey cheese, not too much salt and not too little. When that happens, I do not argue! In my opinion, it was very delicious!
There is a large selection of items, including meats, deli sandwiches, etc. in addition to bagels and bagel sandwiches. They do take credit cards and tap-to-pay (I've stopped by some bagel places that only take cash).
In sum, yes, I'd recommend to try this spot out at least once if you haven't, even though you might wait a bit. Though crowded, they are efficient with the orders. Also, of the bagel spots in the surrounding area (~east 50s), Liberty Bagels 5th Ave got the highest rating on Google.

Read moreReally disappointed with the experience. From the upstate ny area and heard awesome reviews on this place. We came across this location after some fifth avenue shopping yesterday. The manager (I think) opened the door for us to enter with the remark “come in America”, still not really sure what that meant but okay! After literally inviting us in he had an aggressive personality and said “grills off only cream cheese” which was fine with us! Young girl is at the register and I ask if I was supposed to grab one of the rainbow bagels on the display out front if I wanted one (again, first timer idk what I’m doing) the manager inserts himself in our interaction looks at me like I’m an alien and said it’s just decoration. I said “okay May I have a rainbow bagel?” He tells me there is none. Poor register girl looks intimidated by this freak, he walks away then as my husband ordered a regular bagel the manager again enters the conversation and quietly tells the young girl literally infront of us “toasters off”.. she nervously tells us nothing can be toasted.. we obviously left because the message was clear it’s closing time I get it. Honestly we aren’t even the type of people to enter a business we know is closing up for the night but this manager opened the door right up for us and gradually started limiting us LOL!!!!...
Read moreUpdate! I visited Liberty Bagels again today and asked for Kosa. He was incredibly gracious, allowing me to order new bagels and even offering me coffee. I truly appreciated the gesture, and based on this experience, I felt compelled to update my review.
This is a family-owned business that serves as a real anchor in the community. The line is always long—but honestly, that’s a testament to their passion for what they do and the customers they serve. The bagels are absolutely worth it, and I’ll keep coming back! ———————————————————————
I work near Liberty bagels and have gone into the store for bagels many times. The line is super long so I was introduced to ordering online and picking up. The last two times I ordered, I asked for my bagel to be toasted. The first time they ignored it, I let them off the hook assuming someone overlooked it. Today a coworker and I ordered bagels and asked for them to be toasted, even writing it in the special instructions. They didn’t do it still! It’s annoying that ordering online gives you a totally different experience and it’s as if they don’t care to get your order right if you are not waiting in the line and ordering in person. I understand they are busy but two seperate occasions is not a...
