I was very excited to try this place after seeing all the photos -- I love a cute dessert shop, and was eager to see if the taste lived up to the cuteness. The shop is very cute with the alpaca theme, and the desserts are picture-perfect. Given how popular it is, it seems difficult to find a seat at peak times. I ended up trying five different desserts here in addition to the Roseberry drink. The drink was pretty simple and wasn't too sweet, so it got easily drowned out by all the desserts. I appreciate that it wasn't too sweet, but it was nothing to write home about.
The milk tea cloud cake ($13.75) was probably our favorite that we tried. It has a crisp white chocolate shell (as do many of the desserts). I liked the individual components of this dessert -- the cake layers inside were tasty, and the milk tea mousse was light -- but I felt that there was too much mousse relative to cake, which only comprised a very small portion of the volume. I think this was done to fill up the beautiful cloud shape, but I think it would be very beneficial to have a better balance between the cake and cream. Also, while this was our favorite, I wouldn't say the flavors were anything amazing.
The matcha cream puff ($4.25) was quite impressive visually -- it's striking how much cream they manage to put into this huge cream puff. With that said, I think I prefer smaller cream puffs. The crust to cream ratio was way too small and the cream was not particularly tasty. The crust also got a bit soggy due to the cream having been in it for a while. Again I felt that the cream puffs were a case of cream to pastry balance sacrificed for aesthetic appearance.
The raspberry lychee tart was pretty good due to having a variety of textures with the tart shell, the macaron, and the cream. My favorite part was actually the raspberries though, so I guess that doesn't bode well for the dessert itself. Again, a bit bland and creamy. It was so adorable though, and the alpaca macarons were perfectly piped.
The yuzu bamboo shoot shaped dessert looked very nice, it felt very one note, just moussey and creamy. I really could've done with more textures in this dish, and the flavors were not contrasting either. I felt similarly about the lychee berry pig dessert.
Overall I would probably not come to this cafe again because while the desserts aesthetics are amazing and make for great pictures, the flavors, textures, and compositional balance do not live up to the aesthetics. I hope that in the future they create desserts with more textural and flavor contrast that live up to their...

Read moreLater visit: the strawberry cream puff is pretty good; the pastry cream still shines with a perfect texture and nice vanilla bean. The cream isn't really strawberry flavored but there are a few small chunks of fresh strawberry and a few bits of jammy strawberry. Great texture on the puff.
Incorporating strawberry flavor more deeply into the cream would have been great - whip up with freeze dried strawberry powder?
Be aware many of the more popular items are often unavailable! Cream puffs, panna cotta, both of them were out when I visited and wouldn't be in for another 4 hours (this was 8am)
That aside, I did get a spiced pear scone, pistachio cake, and chocolate cake.
Pear Scone: the spices are very Christmasy and this is one of the lightest scones I've ever had. The outside has a nice crust that's fairly airy. Not very sweet at all, and the pear doesn't really come though. PROS: spices and texture, CONS: pears? 6.5/10
Pistachio & Chocolate Cakes: the pistachio cake is a mousse cake, heads up. My friend said that they didn't taste that distinctly of pistachio and she thought it was green tea at first. The raspberry layer in the pistachio cake has a jelly like consistency but the flavor lacks a bright tanginess to cut through the green mousse. The chocolate cake was solid: the cake layers had a nice deep flavor and the balance of cake to frosting was basically spot on. The chocolate pieces on the outside were kinda overkill and didn't really add to...
