Keep in mind that this is not the type of restaurant that I would choose to dine in personally but you make sacrifices when you join a group of people who are visiting your home city. The restaurant itself is very nice. There's a second floor and mirrored walls. They played the softest version of songs I've ever heard and it was so relaxing. It definitely feels upscale. We were greeted by someone and then another person who introduced herself as our server without telling us her name; she gave it to us after I asked her for it. I like to know their name so I can give a positive call out during a review but it will not be needed here. I felt like she singled me out from the beginning because she filled everyone's glass of water but mine. The menu is extremely limited. For someone who only likes shrimp at a seafood restaurant, there was no shrimp beyond an appetizer to choose from. The only choices other than fish were chicken and steak. I had asked our server if I could substitute a side in the chicken dish and she honestly made me feel embarrassed in front of my guests. I completely understand that the chefs are proud of the dishes they make and how the flavors work together but they should be accommodating to their customers who cannot eat certain foods and it's already such a limited menu. She said we don't substitute but what do you want. I said I'm not sure what are the options. She said very rudely "I can't tell you what you want to eat you have to be SPE-CI-FIC" At most restaurants, if the server didn't have an option available, they would say they could ask the chef and give me an option that they are willing to make. My friend asked if they can just put that food that I don't eat on a separate plate and she agreed to it. When going around the table taking my friend's orders, she overhears me explaining to my friend that I don't eat this particular food at all and she asks how about broccolini and i said that would be great just for her to remove that option for me and instead decide to give my excluded food as the side to the friend who ordered steak dish that does not come with a side without asking me first. I understood what was happening so I said then just give him the side I don't want and the server said that is what she said she was going to do. I don't mind giving him my side but how do you, as our server, decide without my agreement since I'm now losing the broccolini that I actually wanted? We ordered the bang bang shrimp as an appetizer. It was nice and crispy but the shrimp was not cooked through. The sauce was nice though. The chicken dish was a small thigh and leg on top of two pieces of asparagus with béchamel sauce. For the price, I thought it would be at least a half of a Cornish hen and maybe 4 pieces of asparagus. $75 later, I left just as hungry...
Read moreI’m extremely disappointed by my experience here, my Fiancé and I flew into New York to celebrate his birthday, while searching for a restaurant I came upon Blue Fin. The reviews had me a little concerned but i decided to give them a chance anyway. our reservation was for 8:30pm when we arrive there was no on to greet us at the door for the first 5 minutes. Instead there was a male at the top of the stair tall African American male bald head in all black attire who invited us up with a hand gesture….as we walked up the stair I notice the cool jellyfish floating from the ceiling… which was a nice touch to the restaurant Interior design .When we got to the top of the stairs we were immediately seated … it was only two other tables dining by the way. The female Waitress was not friendly didn’t even tell us her name just immediately asked if we were ready to order I asked for a few more minutes to look over the menu she left and came back and ask if we were ready to order because the kitchen and bar supposedly closes in 10 minutes which I found weird because if the kitchen closes at what I’m assuming 9pm why allow reservations for 8:30pm …. The food came out 30 minutes later. my fiancé enjoyed his food, he had the filet and white Mac and cheese.I had the pan seared salmon my food was very bland no flavor I had to ask for salt. The lavender mojito was really good. * well, dining, a waiter who is not ours, approached the table and removed the dish of mac & cheese before my fiancé can even say that he was finished* that upset me After we finished dining I realized that our waiter never came out with dessert for my fiancé birthday which I put specifically in the reservation notes. I was really extremely disappointed …… upon leaving the gentleman in the black suit was sitting at the bar and was asked before seating us did he read the reservation details he said no and I told him that we Came here to celebrate my fiancé birthday……. His response was he forgot after stating previously that he didn’t read the reservation smh I was extremely disappointed there were so many other locations that we could have reserved and I regret choosing this one…. NO Hospitality, no customer service, no professionalism I wouldn’t recommend this location to anyone and i definitely...
Read moreThis was our second visit to the Blue Fin, our first time was back in 2018 the last time we visited New York. We’d previously had such a great time, that on our second visit we were looking forward to the restaurant again. We’d booked a table the previous evening, for the next night. Our booking was for 8.30pm. We arrived on time only to find we had to wait for our table to be ready. After about 10 min standing by the door, we were shown to our table; we went upstairs and found plenty of empty tables so not sure why we had to wait. We were seated in an area separated from the main dining area, there were 3 other tables being used here. We ordered oysters & calamari and 2 mains. Within 5 minutes our starter was served. The oysters were good, the calamari no so good, they were deep fried full of batter and warm with oil all over the plate. My wife sent them back not wanting them replaced, after about 10 minutes I had finished my starter that’s when they served our main course. I still had my empty plate on the table, so far we had only been in the restaurant about 18 minutes, at which point we got upset as we wanted to enjoy the evening. We asked the staff why we were served so quick they informed us the kitchen staff had nothing to do so they served our meal, we noticed that the other 3 tables had paid and gone we were now all alone in this part of the restaurant. We were very disappointed; the mains were nothing special certainly not what we’d previously enjoyed. I asked to speak to the manager who came over and we explained the issues, she offered us a cocktail on the house and took off the 1 starter that we’d sent back, we ordered an espresso martini this came up with Baileys instead of vodka, I asked for the bill and we left. Our dining experience lasted a whole 40 minutes and that was us trying to slow them down! We will definitely not be coming back here again, the whole evening seemed to be one big rush with too many compromises for this to be worth the money. There are plenty of nicer...
