We went to the Marquis to see the Stranger Things show. The show was great, but the review is of the Theater...
Coming from Penna, it was pretty easy to get to it, even when we went on a Saturday. The Theater is in the same building at the Marriott Hotel, but they're not associated in that way, there's a separate entrance for the Theater right on 45th Street. It sits back from Times Square by about a block, so if you get there early enough, you can walk around a bit, get a bite to eat, sight-see.
Entrance to the Theater itself is on the second floor and when we went inside the lobby there were plenty of signs and people directing us the way. They have a small bar, serving drinks and some light snacks, we didn't buy any.
Like many Theaters, show your ticket and they'll get you to your seat, which really isn't that hard. We got to ours which was just before the next employee and the employee approached us and all but demanded to see our tickets. I'm like, we're right here, THESE are our seats. They ARE lettered by row and the seats ARE numbered. I guess she didn't believe me and still demanded to see them, she looked at them and was like - your seats are right here. No kidding, right ... right where I said they were! A little on the way over helpful in my opinion. And if they're doing it to make sure you're not taking another seat that's not yours - I've been going to shows for decades, I never once saw somebody get caught doing that, especially in a Broadway Theater! And I had to show my tickets at least 3x to get to my seat.
The Theater is in very nice shape and has what I would call - Stadium Seating, so it's well pitched that the person shouldn't block your view for the show! My only complaint about the seats, they're tight! Unless you're thin as a stick, you're going to be shoulder against shoulder with the person next to you!
Parking ... like I said there is the Marriott, but parking in their garage is LIMITED and EXPENSIVE! I talked to their one attendant who said they'll only allow parking if a spot is available, there wasn't one the day we went, but I parked at the City Garage on 46th Street, barely a block away! That cost me $35 for the 6hrs I was there and it's valet. The Marriot - $75 (if available) and $85 for large SUV type vehicles.
In spite of the kind-of rude attendant(s), we would definitely go back and see a show there again! Maybe buy an extra seat to the...
Read moreThe Marquis Theatre is an amazing Broadway theatre based in Midtown Manhattan of New York City.
Located on the third floor of the New York Marriott Marquis, it was designed by architect, John C. Portman Jr. and is owned by Vornando Realty Trust. It opened to the public in 1986, has a seating capacity of over 1600 seats, and is operated by the Nederlander Organization, one of America’s largest operators of live theaters and music venues.
The Marquis Theatre has hosted numerous theatrical productions, ranging from “Tootsie” “Beetlejuice,” “Elf:The Musical” and many others.
In September of 2025, I brought and treated my wife and myself to the Marquis Theatre to watch the “Stranger Things:The First Shadow” to celebrate my wife’s birthday and we very much enjoyed every moment of our experience!!!
Both my wife and I were kindly welcomed and treated by the theatre’s staff, found the theatre to be very elegant and comfortable, and appreciated the spacious seating which provided superb views of the show.
Without giving away too much, the story of “Stranger Things:The First Shadow” precedes the “Stranger Things” the popular and well-acclaimed Netflix series, and tells the origin and childhood of Henry Creel, the show’s iconic and fearsome villain.
My wife and I loved everything about the show and were in absolute awe of its special effects and lighting, the stage and sound design and the outstanding performance of the cast!!!
Our favorite part of the show was the mesmerizing performance of its main star, Henry Creel, played by renowned actor, Louis McCartney. Louis absolutely nails the role of Henry Creel hands down. What’s amazing about Louis’s portrayal is that he showcases many facets of Henry Creel’s character, from his quiet, shy and reserved demeanor, to his haunted and panic stricken version particularly when he comes face to face with the spirits that haunt him, as well as the vile sinister version that foreshadows the monster he’ll eventually become. The ironic thing about Henry is that while he does end up becoming the villain, you can’t help but route for him, and hope that he overcomes his irresistible transformation.
There’s action, excitement and dread throughout the show and it definitely leaves the audience on the edge of the seat. If you are fan of “Stranger Things” you’ll definitely enjoy watching Stranger Things at the Marquis Theatre, a first class...
Read moreVery fancy! Such a design on the place just the architecture and history behind it all. I was so excited to come here because I had heard that the most famous and important events have happened in this area of manhattan. The rockettes, The lion king, Wizard of Oz, Romeo and Juliet I mean the shear poetry and ambiance of the place just send shivers down my spine. I paid $95 for a backseat ticket to the exclusive “Stranger things” broadway show and might I say I have never been more impressed. I mean talk about a performance Wow! The actors themselves were very interesting as they took method acting all the way to which it seemed like I was watching a movie or a sit com to say the least. You know the laughing you hear from a live audience in comedy Tv shows when the characters say or do something funny? Well I felt apart of that whole shtick and it was a pretty hilarious experience. The stage effects were amazing down right video game style worthy with smoke, screening effects, lighting, strong bass sound effects, projections, scents everything I honestly felt so in depth with the plot of the story. 3 hours I thought was a long time for a showing but man was I glad to actually sit through the whole thing. There are also intermissions to take breaks to use the bathroom or to get snacks from the concession stand which is a tab bit expensive but you are in NY one of the most expensive cities in the world. There is also no video recording or photos once inside the theater so I couldn’t get any of the character performance. Tons of security so pretty safe and...
