Embarking on a Sunday morning culinary escapade at Brown Butter Kitchen in BedStuy, the brunch haven specializing in homemade biscuits, offered a blend of delights and minor nuances.
The layout, though not optimal, didn't deter the gastronomic journey. However, a lack of friendly greetings upon entering left room for improvement in the staff's hospitality.
The star of the show, the homemade biscuits, proved their mettle in a chicken sandwich adorned with a fried egg and bacon. (The egg could have been a little “yolkier”) Wrapped meticulously in foil and served on a metal tray, these sandwiches defied expectations, filling stomachs with delightful surprises.
The culinary prowess extended to the roasted potatoes, a medley of flavors featuring both regular and sweet potatoes. Despite minor hiccups, with two out of four orders missing ingredients, the overall food quality shone through.
A brunch feast of 4 sandwiches and 2 sides vanished into satisfied stomachs within a mere 15 minutes. The reasonable pricing added to the positive equation, making it a value-laden experience.
Observing the bustling activity as we departed, the packed restaurant hinted at a potential need for additional seating. While the overall experience merited a commendable 4 out of 5 stars, the friendly staff and a tweak in layout could elevate Brown Butter Kitchen to a brunch haven of...
Read moreOn my search for great egg-cheese-avocado biscuit sandwiches prior to moving away from BK, Brown Butter continued to come up as a good option to try. The restaurant is quaint and cute, located in Bed-Stuy, and a black-owned business, all of which made me very, very excited to visit!
I came with a friend who is also a foodie on a late Saturday morning, and both of us were pumped for some biscuit sandwiches. However, as I added on the avocado and cheese to the sandwich (replacing the meat, as a vegetarian), I was kind of worried about the price continuing to go up.
Regardless, we were excited, and took a seat in the backyard (which is fairly small, so may not be the greatest for social-distancing if there are a lot of other diners). About 20-25 minutes later (which was kind of a surprisingly long wait), we got our sandwiches; my friend had to ask again for his iced tea, which he loved, but waited for for that time.
The sandwiches were great -- exactly what we wanted, and the biscuits were AMAZING. When I'm back in the area, I will definitely make a point to visit Brown Butter as much as possible -- but please make sure to check the hours before you go, as this was the 2nd time I came due to the limited hours (not the fault of the owners at all!).
Go eat, enjoy and...
Read moreIt may be helpful to let customers know verbally before ordering that only 2 tasting are allowed. It does seem unreasonable given that the tasting position doesn’t fully even cover the tiny spoon provided. Nonetheless if those are the rules please specify. As someone who has never tried this place before I was very disappointed yesterday after standing in a long line and not being informed until after trying 2 flavors, that were not appealing to MY pallet, that I could not try another one (which I did express would be my final because there was a line). Especially when I genuinely wanted to make a purchase and dedicated time to waiting. However, I do not spend money on things if i’m not sure i’m going truly enjoy it. I would have really liked to end the night with a sweet treat and as someone who does food reviews I love posting about new places I come across. Please communicate with your customers verbally when making orders so that no one’s time is wasted. Customers are what make the business and it’s important that if someone is making an invest into your establishment they should be able to make a fully educated decision on what they would like to purchase. Coming from a business owner in the food industry personally. God...
