I saw photos on their Instagram of how richly purple the ube ice cream was and the fact that they use all natural ingredients, no fillers, no added flavors, and no added color. Being an ice cream lover I immediately knew that meant they WEREN’T skimping on the good stuff—aka the main flavor ingredients. Chains like Van Leeuwen’s are a waste of my stomach space to me, the flavors are like the La Croix of ice creams. Too diluted in order to reach a bigger markup. Brown Butter Creamery was so rich, creamy and delicious and they were kind enough to allow sampling of up to 2 flavors.

Their pints are $18, which in this economy is (shockingly) about right for the cost it would take me these days to come out on top after buying my own high quality organic cream, whole milk, sugar, and flavor ingredients to make ice cream in my home gelato maker (plus labor). I’m aware you can make cheaper ice cream, and homemade stuff generally implies affordability, but for flavor this concentrated you’d be surprised how quickly the cost can add up. So I’ll continue enjoying Brown Butter’s as-good-as-homemade creations by the scoop when I want REAL ice cream but don’t want to make a whole quart of it myself! It’s exactly what good ice cream should be: a treat.

Thank you so much for bringing your amazing gelato to the neighborhood! Bring your friends and enjoy the space, there’s several tables for sitting inside + a long bench +...

10 out of 10 i don't even like ice cream like that, but it's a hundred in one degrees today. And let's just say i'm leaving with something! Lol today i have the oat raspberry swirl, which is their vegan option using oat milk. It was really, really, really good. I highly recommend ask for a taste first if you're unsure, but it was amazing and I did it on the waffle cone. I can't wait to go back because everybody's been raving about this Ube. Ice cream, which I would like to try. This is a great neighborhood spot. I love that it's a black owned business as well. Keep up the great work! I'm mad. I missed that pumpkin flavor I saw someone post about as well so. Ube, pumpkin and pistachio is on my list to try next! And maybe that caramel crunch sounds amazing, looks divine lol no photo, because I demolished, it literally took it all the way down!...

Great Ube Gelato, But Not Worth the Price Tag

I have to admit, the Ube gelato at Brown Butter Creamery is fantastic and pretty much the reason I keep going back. It’s got a unique flavor that’s hard to find elsewhere, and it’s become a favorite of mine.

That said, the prices here feel way too high for a neighborhood spot. This is Brooklyn, not lower Manhattan, so it would be nice if they adjusted to serve the community that keeps them in business. On top of that, the staff isn’t exactly the friendliest. They seem comfortable among each other, but their people skills could use some work to make the experience feel more welcoming.

In the end, I’ll go back for the Ube, but I’d love to see some changes that make this place feel a bit more...

Brilliant flavorful gelato with classical and a few unique flavors (12 with 4 vegan) such as ube and lychee pear, decent portions and good prices ($7.75 for 3 scoops) and they allow sampling (2). They also have pastries, ample seating inside and outside and some merchandise. Will recommend. My favorite flavors were the lychee pear sorbet (both fruits flavors come out great and it was really refreshing) and the ube (a lovely nutty vanilla-ish taste). The vegan raspberry oat was also quite good. The shop is women and black owned and they make the ice cream onsite.

I had the passion fruit and Rasberry oat. The passion fruit was great!! It taste exactly like passion fruit and had like a passion fruit custard in it. The Rasberry oat was okay. It was $1 extra for it which I wasn’t told there would be an upcharge. It isn’t any signs that shows which icecream/sorbet is extra. I think they should implement it so customers are aware or servers should state that it would be an extra upcharge. I sampled the soursop and I didn’t really taste any flavor. Definitely try the 2 samples.
