Excellent! As a mostly gluten free/ dairy free eater this bakery was a joy to have found. We got the whoopie pie, the apple cupcake, the lemon poppyseed cupcake, the apricot hamantaschen, the raspberry tart, and the pecan turtle bar. They also threw in two snickerdoodle cookies that are new (which were delicious and perfect to dunk in coffee or tea). The shop itself was very cute and well maintained.
I wish the crust had been a bit more flakey and a little thinner on the pecan turtle bar, raspberry tart and the hamantaschen. The flavor of the apricot and the raspberry were good but got lost in the crust. The pecan turtle bar was phenomenal though. The subtle flavors in the caramel (I felt like they used honey to make it), and the sparse but precise placement of the chocolate chips showed a bakery who knows how to flavor things right.
The two cupcakes were so moist and tender. The apple cake was yummy but the real star in my eyes was the lemon poppyseed. It had a little bit of icing on top that just made it perfect.
Last of all, the whoopie pie was a dream. It was light and moist and the filling was creamy and delicious. Oh wow. I mean I was in heaven. I felt like I was eating something I shouldn’t eat. For a hormonal woman it was a dream come...
Read moreDedicated gluten and dairy free! What a breath of fresh air to walk into a place where I could eat anything. This is a rare occasion as someone who is both gluten and dairy free. As so many of us know, gluten free is hard enough to find, but when you find it, it often contains dairy (in particular baked goods), so I felt like a kid in a candy store looking at all of the options. The only drawback was that when we visited only one of the cakes could be sold by the slice so that cut down options a bit. We arrived later in the afternoon when some options had already sold out but opted for the lemon cupcake and the donut cream puffs. When I tell you that I will be dreaming about both of these items for a very long time, I am being totally serious! My non gluten free partner tried both and he loved them - you’d never know that they were gluten AND dairy free. We would have loved to go back but didn’t have time in the end and the items are fairly pricey, however the luxury of being able to eat anything they offer was worth the money. I wish this was a national chain! I guess I’ll just have to wait until my next trip to New York. Cannot recommend this...
Read moreI ordered a birthday cake on Saturday February 8, 2020 for a Thursday February 13, 2020 pickup. I was extremely specific as to the spelling. 5 letters SAPNA. Thursday I arrive at 6 as scheduled the show me the cake it’s says Happy 45Th Shipma. Upon seeing this I ask what can be done. The young lady behind the counter confirms the spelling is correct on the receipt but incorrect on the cake. It’s written in pink they say Christina made the mistake. She’s not there they can’t mix the pink so it will be redone in white. After 15 minutes I am presented with just the name in white. The rest remained pink. Exasperated I paid and left whist mentioning my displeasure. Horrible first experience here. For $70 I spent a total of $84 purchased card and candles before the cake came out. Should have returned. Would have had better service at whole foods, magnolias...
