Moved to the neighborhood recently. Had been a member of Equinox at the Park Avenue location before. Called ahead to see if I could join speak with a membership advisor. They said he would be there till 6/6:30. I said 6/6:30 sounds vague and asked if the front desk person if they could check because I didn’t want to go over there if he wasn’t going to be there. They said ok, got off the phone and checked. Came back and said to be there by 5:55 and I could see him. I biked over there and arrived at 5:54 and said I just called about membership. The front desk person said oh the membership person left 10 minutes ago. I was really frustrated, the manager came out and was defensive, did not empathize and came off as condescending. I said I was a member at another location and just moved here, I want to join, I came in per your instructions, if they could give me a day pass to make up for their error. Manager took no responsibility for their mistake and the front desk woman I spoke with wouldn’t admit her mistake. She said I could make another appointment .. hmm, why would I do that after that experience? For a club that claims to be the top in the city, the uws location left a very poor impression. If I’m going to spend their hefty monthly fee, I expect more. I was considering joining today. Terrible member service left me disenchanted with the Equinox brand. Won’t be...
Read moreBEWARE they can charge you anytime unexpectedly. I cancelled my membership, because it happened twice (!) in less than 6 months. First time they charged a month extra “by mistake” and didn’t even know why, so they returned it. This time, I put my membership on freeze and was told I would only be charged $50 per month, and then I saw a surprise, a full charge for this month on December 24. Merry Christmas! They started explaining something about returning it for the final month of the year, but it does not work for me, and I was never told that before. If I knew, I wouldn’t have frozen it. Now I just lost a month of working out and my money. The manager, Mr. Lefagous White, apparently does not care about the clients at all. Even though it was the Equinox’s mistake, he was not trying to do anything about it at all, so I ended up canceling my membership altogether, because I’m just fed up it’s this attitude and horrible customer service. Per club itself, it’s okay, but in the end, I was going to the 76th location, which is much nicer. However, it doesn’t matter how, I’ll find another fitness club, which is responsible with charging clients and does not “surprise”...
Read moreHere is my truth about Equinox at West 92nd. First, the folks at the front desk are marvelous, friendly, and attentive. Many of the trainers, those not obviously distracted, are first-rate, bargains at any price. The place is fastidiously clean. And, there are issues. From a former fitness manager there, this branch of Equinox accepts 300 new members a month, actually more. Why? Obviously they lose almost as many or the place would be bursting at the seams. Question: Why do they lose so many members? Answer: No one pays attention. NO ONE PAYS ATTENTION! Neither to machines that are overused and need additional machines nor to those underused and need replacement. Nor is it noted when a member cordons off a machine with a bench and uses it for 30 or 40 minutes, the entire length of one short stay at the gym. No one pays attention. Not to members to whom "may I work in" is an affront. Not to those members who claim a machine and are most of the time on their phones. Sharing is not done, decorum is absent. I have voiced my opinion at the club several times. I have reluctantly cancelled ...
