I absolutely love the cozy Pushkin Theater on 86th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. With only about 50 seats, it creates such an intimate atmosphere—you truly feel like you’re part of the performance. I purchased a ticket, drawn by the captivating headline, only to discover upon arrival that the performance was actually in Serbian :) I do not speak Serbian. We decided to give it a try despite not understanding the language… Even without understanding a single word, Written and performed by Daniela Popovic, “When It Hurts, You Play” was nothing short of extraordinary. Daniela is also a graduate of Juliet’s school. Daniela’s expressions, articulation, and confidence completely captivated us. Staying engaged in a performance in a foreign language is a true testament to her incredible talent. Thank you Aleksey Burago and to the entire team for such a passionate collaboration.

This Theater is a true diamond , shining with every single actor of a company. They play, dance and sing their performances , making the best of Russian literature and drama easy to comprehend for their multicultural audience . Their playful style , sparkled by high sense of humor , effortlessly communicate quite philosophical messages , make their shows unforgettable and keep you willing to come over again.

Today I watched the play Kholstomer. An hour and a half flew by as if in one breath. The work of the actors is so captivating that the emotions from what you watched do not let go for a long time. I want to say the main thing - even if the play was staged without a single phrase, without a single word - it would be no less delightful and understandable! Powerful energy, emotionality of the actors tightly embrace the viewer, twists and carries away into the plot, not letting go until the last second of the action. I highly recommend watching it.

I saw Master and Margarita here. Great classic and interesting plot for those that read the book or watched the movie but the show at Pushkin palace did not meet my expectations at all.

I get that this is an off-Broadway, but even so, they can do better. The costumes were a 0.1/5 *. As far as talent, the lady who plays Margarita as well (as the demon in the beginning) and Azazello I would say were the two that stuck out most to me in terms of making the show at least somewhat worthwhile.

Otherwise, this show was severely lacking in my taste and in entertainment and the lady next to me fell asleep. Some people even left during the 15 minute intermission. At the beginning, the lady even says if you don't like the show invite your enemies. Guess there's some truth to that.

There were only ~ 50 people at the beginning and towards the end maybe 35? ....and some lady with a list walks around asking your name to check it off. She might want to count how many leave too.

If you come early, you can choose any seat (except 1st row which is for "VIP") which is nice actually. Also, place was hot during the show. Old hall too. Dress casual and maybe bring a sweater along (in case anything changes) ... facility doesn't have sufficient funds for proper ventilation...
