Volkan, I believe is Turkish meaning volcano. When I tried this place I didn't have a volcanic experience but quite the opposite. What I mean is I think of a volcano as exploding and aggressive while this place was adorable, cozy and pleasant.
I guess you can interpret words in different ways. Volcano or Volkan can mean exploding with kindness, or oozing with good food.
Unfortunately, I had already eaten when I entered so I just ordered a malpe latte which was delicious. Many times in other places the same drink is made too sweet. The oat milk, maple and espresso blended well and was very tasty.
The staff was very patient as I decided what to order, people eating, chatting and waiting in line seemed chilling on a Saturday afternoon. I was only there 10 minutes and had a great experience. I think the smallness and design of the cafe works well. It made me think of the Tiny Desk concerts on NPR, where musicians perform a concert in a very small space however, it works amazingly well.
I look forward to going back another time to try the food. Maybe I had a volcanic...
Read moreI ordered an iced Nutella latte with oat milk, and it was honestly terrible. First off, it was $8 (NYC prices, sure but the drink SUCKED).
I’ve worked in coffee shops for six years, and now that I’m a retired barista, I still enjoy the occasional specialty latte. I saw that Café Volkan had great reviews and some interesting drinks, so I figured I’d give it a try.
The barista partly steamed the milk for my iced drink, I’m guessing to mix the flavorings, but that can easily be done with a spoon. As a result, when they poured the warm milk and espresso over the ice, it melted almost immediately. What I ended up with was a watery, room-temp $8 drink that tasted like nothing. I couldn’t taste any Nutella, and overall it was just super disappointing.
I’m always happy to support small businesses and don’t mind paying higher prices when the quality matches the cost but in this case, it...
Read moredear fellow coffee and cafe loving brooklynites, it is with a heavy heart that begin to tell you about my experience at Cafe Volkan. it was gorgeous, literally the first day of spring when i visited with a friend of mine after a joyous bike ride. we popped in for a refreshing chai and a refreshing açaí bowl. much to our greatest disappointment, neither was refreshing. our chai, was 99% milk and 100% flavorless. no spice, no tea. just a seven dollar pipe dream. the açaí bowl was clearly the product of a cheap açaí mix probably from costco…although on second thought that would be a disservice to costco. even as i sit here in the gorgeous spring sun and write this review, i am truly sorry it had to be this way. i cannot in good faith recommend a visit to this cafe. and i hope you, my fellow cafe loving brooklynites, will spare yourself the...
