My friends and I were craving sushi one night when one of them recommended Ki. We called at around 5 pm on a Friday and were able to get a reservation for four people at 8:15 pm.

I believe it’s indoor dining and it was pretty full that night, but tables were still properly distanced. We ordered a few apps to start with:

Agedashi tofu - pretty solid. It was crispy and piping hot and it came with at least ten pieces

Tuna crispy rice - I always love a good tuna crispy rice. This one was unique because it was a crispy thin layer of rice instead of a crispy ball of rice. I really liked it because it meant fewer carbs, meaning not as filling, meaning more room for the main course

TNT Truffle (chopped blue fin toro, caviar, scallion, tempura flakes, wrapped with tuna in truffle soy sauce) - this was not bad but I could have done without the tempura flakes rolled into the middle. The truffle taste was very faint and tasted like fruffle (fake truffle)

For the mains, we all got the omakase. This included toro, seared toro, seared king salmon, horse mackerel, amber jack, eel, scallop, uni, red snapper, barracuda. My favorites were the toro, seared toro, seared king salmon, and the uni. My friend ordered hers without wasabi and for some reason, her scallop came out as chopped scallop as opposed to whole and she said it was not good - so just a note for those who don’t eat wasabi.

I don’t live in the area and I’m rarely in this neighborhood but if I do come back, I wouldn’t mind paying Ki Sushi...

So my fine friend was craving for sushi, so we got the famous Ki roll, Rainbow roll, and a Sashimi deluxe. First off, the service was awesome. Beyond having a warm wet towel to wash up before eating, there's a slice of lemon in our water. Only 8.53% of all the restaurants I've been do actually gives lemon in your water automatically so that's a big win for Ki already. FF was not impressed. The Ki roll was awesome to me, but FF was a bit apprehensive about eating a gold leaf. Like the Ki, the Rainbow roll was also packed with fresh fish.

Sashimi deluxe came and FF apparently isn't really into salad - odd I thought, seeing how she's so... fine. Every single piece of fish I found was freakin fresh. But FF was not impressed.

For dessert, I wanted to bring FF to a cute place I know with some pretty awesome Chocolate cake - surprise her with a candle in it for her Birthday. She shows me a picture of a slice of chocolate cake she had the day before at Peter Luger... with a candle in it. sad face Instead we stayed and ordered the banana and ice cream. That she liked.

I went home with a sad face and later in the evening I had two pieces of the Ki and Rainbow roll left over that was doggie bagged. Opened up the paper bag to find a menu wrapped in a rubber band with a tiny dish, 4 packs of soy sauce, wasabi and ginger in my sushi container. Never in my entire life in my doggy-bagging career have I ever had utensils included in my take home bag. I got...

Sashimi is my all-time favorite and I'm pretty particular when it comes to the freshness as well as the quality of the fish. We checked out this place on a Friday night holiday weekend (Dec 23rd) and the raw ingredients was fresh.

We sat ourselves at the sushi bar but the sushi chef offered us with no appetizers. The 2 notable items were the uni and the blue fin toro and they were both $8 per (single) piece. The sea urchin was creamy and sweet with a hint of nutty taste to it, which was a taste of freshness. Sadly, the chef didn't know where they were from! I asked but no one knows! The toro was from a high-grade tuna because it was rich in flavor and melted in my mouth. Mm-mm, good!

However, the service sucks. All I want to drink was to have some green tea but the waiter didn't even know what ocha was! Without consideration, I was told it was sold out because he assumed it was a type of sake! I had to explain to him that ocha is actually the Japanese green tea.

When my friend suggested this place, I was not hesitated to try even though it's off our usual grid (we came from Queens) because they have over 200 reviews. Regardless, I will not return to this place to pay for city-priced food with such poor service, unless the prices are marked down. Does anyone...

Ki Sushi made our date night absolutely perfect! We sat at the sushi bar, and it was such a unique experience to watch the chefs in action. They were incredibly friendly, answering all our questions about the sushi as they prepared it, which added such a personal and interactive touch to the evening. The ambiance was intimate and romantic, just right for a special night out. We loved that we could bring a bottle from our favorite wine store across the street, Granada Wines, to enjoy with our meal—a fantastic option that made the night even more special. We started with the miso soup and the TNT truffle appetizer, which were absolutely delicious. The sushi, with fish flown in from Japan, was as fresh as it gets and tasted incredible. We ordered several rolls, each a work of art, and finished the night with green tea mochi, the perfect sweet ending. Between the impeccable service, the exceptional food, and the thoughtful details, Ki Sushi delivers a truly unforgettable dining experience. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

We’ve been loyal patrons of Ki Sushi on Smith for the past 15 years, and it continues to impress with every visit. The sushi is consistently fresh—there’s no doubt about it. For those who have been coming here as long as we have, you’ll appreciate how much of the staff has stayed the same. Eddie and Manuel are always there, providing exceptional service with a personal touch. They truly make you feel like family. The atmosphere is incredibly relaxing, though it can be a bit on the dark side—still, the vibe is perfect for a laid-back, enjoyable meal. The highlight for us, as always, is the Omakase. The pieces are flown in directly from Tokyo, and they’re always incredibly fresh, sweet, and just downright amazing. I can't wait for our next visit. Ki Sushi is a place that never disappoints—highly recommend!
