UPDATED 11/26/21 - So a national chain comes in and wrecks the place. We moved to NYC 21 years ago and have celebrated almost every family occasion and milestone at the original and westside Palms. For over 30 years I've had uncountable business lunches and dinners at Palms all over the US. But yesterday was probably my last visit. The Thanksgiving dinner that was once a real roasted turkey breast was replaced by a turkey roll - 3 perfectly round slices of lunch meat. The beautiful golden dressing, replaced by a gritty cornbread style. Mashed potatoes and gravy, now mashed sweet potatoes. And not a pumpkin anything for desert. We were handed plain paper menus that had already been worked pretty hard - not special holiday menus, mind you. Just regular menus not even including a Thanksgiving menu. We had to request bread with the salad course. Wife's steak was up to snuff, but now there are 3 filet sizes - minuscule, petit and regular. Donuts. Gone. Green beans with pancetta. Gone. Caesar. Gone. And, I'm sorry, the caricatures on the walls? The celebrities and NYC notables are now crowded out by every mope who manages to spend $15k or more frequenting the palm. Who are these people!? And who cares? This was once my favorite restaurant on the planet, now institutionalized and just not worth the premium anymore UPDATED 5/11/20 - TAKE OUT!? I have to admit I had my doubts. But Mothers Day at The Palm is a tradition. So we ordered our usual - 2 filets, au gratin, green beens, shrimp cocktail, and primavera for our vegetabletarian daughter. It was done and packed right on time. We followed their instructions - popped it all in a pre-heated oven when we got home. Except for the plates, crisp tablecloth, and snappy service, it was just like the real thing. Nice job, folks! From the young lady who took and delivered the order, to the kitchen, et al. Also - love the Palm Market. Ingenious idea. Palm is Palm. Trendier places abound, but why would you? I've never had anything that wasn't done to perfection. I avoided this location for a long time, in favor of the original Palm. How good could anything be in tourist central midtown? Well . . . the host staff is first-rate and game to accommodate pretty much anything. Service is impeccable. Bar is friendly and has a nice menu. And the steaks/seafood - pure Palm. If I had to pick (and I do) I hate the pictures on the wall vs the original Palm. All it takes to make the walls of fame now is spend $X. Then they put a digital output sticker on the wall. Cheesy and uninteresting to look at vs what used to be only celebs, notables, and characters

I stopped in on a Saturday before heading to a show across the street. I was looking for something light to eat as I wasn’t super hungry for a heavy meal. I sat at the bar and ordered a $19 Peachy Keene cocktail. While the idea seemed nice, there was something in it that had a sharp bite that very much contrasted with the sweetness of the peach. Maybe it was a heavy hand with one ingredient or a light hand with another, but that was not what I was expecting from a Prosecco based cocktail. The lobster bisque was served table side- a bowl with a tablespoon of finely chopped lobster meet and a small gravy dish that the soup was poured from. It was very tasty. I ordered an appetizer portion of their sea scallops with pastina (a special I presume) and was greatly dissatisfied. The pastina was at the bottom mixed with a tomato based sauce with the scallops on top. There was a garlic oil or dressing that was layered on top of everything that just made the entire plate too rich and heavy. I think it would have been fine had there been less oil but my plate was just swimming with it and I could not finish it after 2 bites. I may return if I’m ever in the area and need a last minute place to pass the time, but I would probably look for other restaurants in the area first.

I couldn’t get into Gallagher’s for lunch so I ended up here. I didn’t even know this location existed, since I still thought the 2nd avenue location was still around. RIP. The restaurant was 90% empty at lunch. I call that a bonus because I’m not into eating with the herd. Service was attentive, friendly and steakhouse professional, less gruff than say Peter Luger’s or Keens. Their steak isn’t dry aged, it’s wet aged. Not a fan of the taste but they cook to temp well. Also, their steak is heavily salted, so you’ve been warned. Adult beverages are well crafted and $$$ ($20 +) Everything else was up and down. Their lobster bisque is very good. Burger was average. Fries- superb. Skip the cheesecake. I have fond memories of the original location when the adults in my life took me there as a young pup. It’s night and day from that environment, but that was a different time and a much different NYC. *Sigh* Note to my future self: It’s a great spot for a cocktail pit stop. It’s also great if you’re not a real lover of dry aged steak and would rather have an intimate but quiet lunch. The end.

Really tough to post this review, as this (was) one of our favorite restaurants. We go to NYC twice a year. This is our go-to before a Broadway show. During our visit on Sat, December 2nd, we were sat 20 mins past our reservation time. Which while frustrating, do know it’s beyond the staff’s control getting people up from the previous sitting. Once were we sat, it took another 5 mins for our server to come. Once he did, we explained we were in a rush to make our showtime, and that we were ready to order. He seemed annoyed at this and simply said ‘we will try our best.’ He took our order including our drinks and left. After waiting another 20 mins…with no drinks…and no further contact from the server…we got up and left. (O we did get food runners who accidentally tried bringing us another table’s food.) We stopped by the entrance podium, asked for a manager, which the gentleman said he was one of the managers. We explained what happened. And all he could say was ‘we’re sorry- we’ll be speaking with them.’ Probably the most heartbreaking dining experience we’ve had in NYC. Again, this was our previous fave. I’m honestly still in shock we had such a horrible contrasting experience from previous visits. So I don’t really know what happened...if management changed or something. But people need to know that while there is definitely potential to have a phenomenal experience here...you might not get it, and instead might get one of the worst dining experiences ever. I really hate that I have to leave such a horrible review. We are still in shock to go from a stellar experience not 6 months ago...to one of the worst dining experiences ever. I hope management and staff see this and do better. I know they don't need patrons like us during the busy holiday season. They are clearly are popular, overbooked, and have no problem filling seats during this time. But it's bad experiences like ours that add up, and will hurt their business in the slow season, which I don't want. There is a rich history in that place, and I know it's a special venue. Please treat future patrons better. That's all I...

Both me and my wife have been dining at the Palm one the Palm too so I'd say it's a good 25 years. The Palm West was very nice but I guess like many things have changed. The crab cakes used to be baked and they were awesome now they're fried don't care for them at all if I would have known, I would have never have ordered it, or I should have just sent it back . Honestly for us that crab cake was terrible. the waiter never told us that or I wouldn't have ordered it. Honestly I wish Ceaser would have waited on us , the waiter we had was not that attentive to the table maybe he was too busy I don't know it was the little things that matter like he should have told us that the crab cakes changed and that they were fried and not baked, he should have told me the cheesecake has raspberries all over it he just wanted to get on with it you know and move on to the next table I'm not used to that. And honestly it cost me $75 to park my car for 2 hours cuz I was coming from Staten Island, I know it's been hard ,but that's just price gouging an ridiculous! No validating parking tickets at this location! Look we've been coming to New York City for like 50 years but that's out of control $75 but 2 hours LOL it's not even funny it's a shame. On the bright side got to see some people that we knew like Caesar waiter Richie the general manager met some new people in the front dee was very nice extremely nice. I guess if I have to give on the whole the food is very good the lamb chops are awesome the steak was great and their expresso machine broke so we had no expresso no cappuccino life happens I guess. As much as we love the Palm I can't see coming from Staten Island between all the tolls and then getting ripped off for $75 for parking I don't think I'll be going midtown again.... Another point . I asked the waiter why he didn't decant the wine ? As they always do . He said not expensive enough ! Have to buy a bottle for $150 or more . That's a joke . Between the Bill the Parking .. that night cost over $500 !! Not not enough to decant ! Maybe tribeca will be more...
