NYC Ktown 🔥 Ultimate Guide to Korean Street: Must-Visit Spots & Tips

Really good food, wonderful intimate environment. More of a casual style and I left full and very satisfied. The highlight for me was actually the small but well curated wine by the glass and bottle list. You can get a nice interesting glass for $15 or a bottle for $50 that isn't generic?! Awesome! Their wine list is a collecjton lesser known regions and producers, which is how I think they keep their prices down, leans natural but *not funky*. It's a great, thoughtful, interesting list. Don't like wine? Their makgeolli is great, $10, 5%, fruity, slightly sparkling, good rice flavor, fantastic and refreshing. Sake list also looks fantastic. Huge props to the beverage director. As for the food, the move in my opinion is to go straight into entrees. Soy poached sable fish is a must have, tender fatty fish over braised diakon is incredible. Add a pancake and a couple and you're set for 2. I thought the yellowtail hwe was delicious as expected, I had a similar version at Meju, but pricey. If you want an appetizer the spicy fried chicken is great (it's basically the same as the little banchan shop). The tofu looked good too, but I'll have to save that for next time.

WOW - not blown away by Korean food often but this place is IT! Came here for a lovely New Year’s Eve dinner, got the special sampler menu for group of 4 includes 9 courses (banchan included). Loved everything, will preface and say I’m not a seafood person but still loved the sashimi salad and cod. Tofu was so soft it was almost mochi like but softer. Pajeon was so crispy and yummy almost ordered a second one just for me! Bulgogi sliders very good but kind of heavy and very fatty cut of meat. The slider buns was so soft and buttery. I’m very hard to please when it comes to bulgogi bibimbap, but this was as authentic and fresh as it gets. Love the mushrooms they use too. Black sesame ice cream was a generous sized scoop, great way to end the meal. Bar is very cute. Some tables are communal and this place is on the smaller side but food and service made up for it. If you’re a germaphobe or particularly concerned about COVID, you may want to request the outdoor dining tables, seems like individual booths or rooms

3.5 stars - With 2 weeks to go and having over 300 booked restaurants left to tackle, my fiance and I decided to give the only Michelin starred Korean restaurant in the city a visit. We arrived around 8PM on a rainy late spring Friday and managed to snatch the last 2 seats.

As soon as we were situated, I look a full look at Danji and was surprised at how tiny this place was - yet somehow every patron was screaming on top of their lung aka chatting with the person directly across from him/her. Honestly, my fiance and I could barely hear each other as we were trying to discuss our menu options. Speaking of menu, our hostess failed to inform us that the menu was already placed in the desk drawer. My fiance and I sat around for a good 10 minutes before we waved down our waiter to learn that the menus were waiting there for us all along. We prob should have asked earlier.

Onto the food - our server took her time in explaining the menu (traditional vs modern Korean tapas) and recommended 2-3 plates per person. My fiance and I weren't particularly hungry so we decided on 3 dishes including 1 which was portioned to 2 servings - Bossam, Poached Sablefish, and Kimchi Fried Rice (for 2).

The bossam was first to arrive - 6 pieces of juicy, fatty braised pork served with steamed lettuce and pickled kimchi. Aside from the fact that the pork was a bit too saucy/salty, I find the pairing with the steamed lettuce (balanced out the saltiness of the braising sauce) and spicy kimchi (added the needed crunch) to be just perfect.

The poached sablefish was next - beautiful, flaky white fish filet - the sauce actually tasted very similar to the Bossam's - perhaps just a tad sweeter but again a bit too salty to my taste - nevertheless, easily my fav dish of the night.

Kimchi fried rice - after seeing pictures after pictures of it on yelp - we decided to give it a try even though my fiance isn't the biggest kimchi fan. Served on a sizzling pan, the fried rice was lightly crusted at the bottom which gave it a nice toasted/crunchy texture. The rice was perfectly seasoned and not oily like the usual kimchi fried rice I find in K-town. However for $20 and with endless glowing reviews/recommendations, we expected far more from this dish - it was still just a regular kimchi fried rice to us.

After blowing through the 3 dishes, my fiance and I realized we had wayyyy under-ordered. Our stomachs were still growling so we asked our server for a dessert menu. To our surprise, they didn't have one - in fact, no desserts! Whoa, a no dessert restaurant - not even ice cream? Instead of going back to the main dishes, we remembered the tubs of ice cream waiting on us at home and decided to just call it a night..

Service was attentive and warm (water glasses never empty). Food was good but fell short for my expectation especially for a Michelin 1 starred restaurant. (again I'm comparing it to restaurants like Bouley). And although each dish was purposely presented one at a time to give guests ample amount of time to enjoy and share, my fiance and I wished they were served all at once so we could have some taste and texture contrasts. It got pretty boring eating a a whole filet of sablefish /spoon after spoon of fried rice.

Price was definitely on the steep side (3 non-filling dishes for $70+ including tax and tip )- Nevertheless,, my fiance and I had a fabulous dinner date even though our bellies didn't...

We went here because the owner was in the famous cooking show in Korea and the restaurant got a Michelin. We are Korean and we've been a quite number of Korean restaurants in Manhattan. Some of them were really disappointing for Korean.

This one is very different. We sat outside dinning and ordered three menu (two side dishes and one main menu). All the three dishes were AWESOME. They certainly understand what kind of taste it should have as a Korean dish, at the same time, they have one special tweak differentiating them from the traditional Korean cuisine.

1st dish: Yellow Tail with Salad. We're great fans of Yellow Tail back in Korea. We wanted it so bad every winter. Finally we have it here. The fish were so soft, and red sauce (sour & spicy) was AWESOME.

2nd dish: Spicy Crispy Chicken Wing: I love Korean Fried Chicken. I love they also served picked radish with chicken. Such a classic way. We apparently could see the chef understands the Korean cuisine deeply, and gave it a lot of thought to create this menu. The dish was served so hot that the taste cannot escape until we finished the dish.

3rd dish: Beef Bi-bim-bap: a lot of ingredient. The chef seems to have a lot of respect about the ingredient. Bibimbap is such a normal cuisine back in Korea, so I'm usually hesitant to order. But here because of its excessive ingredient, it fulled me enough with delicious taste.

Indeed, I didn't expect that every dish would hit home-run every time. What a pleasant discovery. Thanks to the owner and the chef who gave us great time during this horrible...

i want to love this place so much because the food is good. my husband and i come twice a year when we come to town for shows. the last time we came after a show (we booked on open table). when we got there they said we had to hurry because the kitchen was closing. but they accepted our reservation for that time! so we hurried through our meal as everyone seemed to just be waiting for us to finish. but the food was good... i decided to book again. i booked a week beforehand for four people to have dinner before our show. we have a close friend that decided to meet up for the show, so i tried to edit our reservation through open table to add one more. it said to call or e-mail the restaurant. i e-mailed as i live in another time zone and can’t seem to reach them during my day. i just got to town and called them today to check on my reservation and make sure they received my e-mail. the woman that took my call simply said, “we get so many e-mails we can’t get to all of them. you should have called”. she offered us to sit all at the bar. “everyone is over 21, right?” no, they are not. she said she could accommodate if we ate at the bar and we’re out by 6:00 p.m. another hurried meal. unfortunately it will be our last...
