My mother and I wound up at Del Frisco's after a show at Radio City, I was looking for a place close by that had fantastic reviews and Del Frisco's more than lived up to their reputation! We also got to check out the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree because it was right next to the restaurant, which as native New Yorkers is not something we are wont to do because of the crowds, but it was lovely to see it and not be surrounded by tons of people. Del Frisco's location is wonderful and close to a lot of things that you'd love to see if you're visiting the city or, even if you live here but are taking in the sights.
Let's talk about the food though because it was absolutely mouthwateringly delicious and I wish I was there right now. The deviled eggs appetizer were the best deviled eggs I have ever had. The only reason we didn't order more was because we wanted to try more things on the menu and I'm thrilled that we did because the sweet corn bisque was divine. It was so good that I was in a war with myself between eating slowly and savoring every spoonful or eating it all immediately because I couldn't stop. It was velvety and so incredibly flavorful and I wish I could eat it every single day of my life. The prime beef short rib stroganoff was so tender that it fell apart at the touch of the fork. It was perfection: delicious and comforting. We ordered the lemon doberge cake for dessert and were shocked at how large it was. It was melt in your mouth decadence and we bough half of it home to eat later. We aren't big drinkers but the drinks were also fantastic!
The service was great, our waiter was wonderful and happy to accommodate anything we asked. When my mother couldn't decide on a salad dressing he brought out three for her to taste and decide on. I mentioned that I didn't like sour cream when I asked for it removed from my entree and he made sure that my soup was sour cream free which I had missed. Everyone we encountered who worked there was kind and friendly.
Two things worth noting:
The actual menu differs a bit from the website so if you think there isn't anything for you based on the website menu you might be pleasantly surprised by the on site menu. Mostly everything we ordered wasn't on the website menu at all.
It gets VERY dark inside when they dim the lights. Every table around us, including us, had to use their phones to see the menu and their food once the lights dimmed. One table even had to ask a waiter for a light from his phone because they didn't have smart phones. I am 33 and have had LASIK recently so it was not that bad for me but if you are with anyone who has issues with their sight or are on the older side this may be a big problem.
Overall I definitely had a wonderful time and will be going back! I've been recommending it to everyone I know so if you're thinking about it make a...
Read moreMy husband and I used to come here every year for our anniversary. Due to the pandemic, we had not been in a few years but unfortunately will most likely not be going back. Before our reservation we looked at the menu on the the website, where there were several menus to choose from but nothing indicating there would be restrictions on the menus. We arrived at the restaurant to find that nearly every item we planned to order was not on the menu due to it being the “restricted holiday menu” which of course, went into effect that day, 12/22/23. I would also like to add that even the more expansive menu on the website had changed since we had been there last and we were hesitant to go but that was our anniversary restaurant so wanted to return after years away. Back to the dining experience…we were squeezed in so close to another two-top we might as well have been eating with them. In addition, we were seated directly in front of some kind of cutlery station, from which servers needed to take or deposit items to every 5 to 10 minutes. Our server was perfectly nice and personable, however he was inattentive, did not ask my husband if he wanted a second beer at all. The dessert we ordered took an additional half hour to be brought out and didn’t include things that were listed as being in the dish. (Bring back the lemon cake!) Due to the lack of items we wanted on the menu we both just ordered steaks in addition to sides. This caused the meal to be far more expensive than we had planned when we had chosen our items from the online menu. One of the items we ordered was the Philly cheesesteak eggrolls, which came out in about 2 minutes, they obviously were not made to order, they were luke warm and not crispy at all. With the exception of the eggrolls, the food was good but not as good as it should have been for the prices being charged. Years ago we would have given this restaurant 5 stars across the board but the lack of diverse items/price points on the menu, the incredibly loud environment, as well as the inattentive service brings this dining experience...
Read moreCame here for the first time for a friend's birthday last night. It was a fairly big party, I believe 14-15 of us total, though this is just my take on things.
Pros: The place had a good vibe, very relaxed. Servers were nice, no one had an attitude or anything.
Cons: When I got to the table, there were already bottles of water present, which is fine. But not a single person at our table was informed that these bottles were $10 each, nor were we offered the option to just get tap water instead. There were several instances of confusion regarding drink and food orders (for some reason there was one person taking orders, but 4-5 different runners for everything from drinks to apps to main courses). When the main courses came out, sides were served first and there was a noticeable delay between that and getting our main dishes (I love a cup of mashed potatoes as much as the next person, but I'm not going to start on that while waiting another 5-10 minutes for my steak). I opted for the 8oz filet which was certainly more medium than the medium rare I requested. If this was a Texas Roadhouse, this wouldn't bother me, but if I'm paying nearly $50 for something, I'd want it to be right. Consistency appeared to be hit or miss as some of us noticed our steaks were overcooked, others just right. At that point, it wasn't worth it to send them back, so we just sat and ate. Then it was time for the check. There was some splitting, but everything was done to make sure it was easy for the server to handle (x amount on a card, here's x in cash, x is the tip, thank you). We look over and there's, again, 4-5 servers around the POS system trying to process this payment. For whatever reason this took another 20-30 minutes. Our reservation was at 6pm, we didn't end up leaving until around 9pm.
Overall, the food was good, but it appears the two biggest drawbacks were server communication and consistency in the kitchen. I'm giving it 3 stars, could've just been...
