Dil-e Punjab Deli is a small Indian deli that serves up pre-made vegetarian small bites, and platter as well as coffee and teas. it also has a small variety of snacks and packaged eats. this place basically is a waystation for cabbies, ride-hail drivers, and mostly other workers of South Asian descent. the space is small and kinda worn-in. there are some seats if you need a place to eat, but i just takeout bc it’s a bit too cramped for me, given the pandemic etc.
the eats? pretty good considering they are pre-batched, reheated, and then served throughout the day and night. so it’s really dependent on your expectations and for me the eats were fine. got the full combo which is rice + 3 vegetarian sides + 1 roti. there are typically like 5 veggie dishes to choose from; picked a lentil dish, mixed veggie one, and a potato-based one. all in all, ample amount of food. tastes good. spiced well flavor-wise but not much heat spice-wise. total for a full platter is $9.99 + tip, so it’s perfect for when you’re too lazy to cook and want a flavorful meatless option.
service is a bit gruff but that might be bc of the lack of English etc. however it’s fine as this is very much a grab-n-go...
Read moreHaving recently returned from my maiden voyage to India, I found myself craving something reminiscent of the wondrous weeks I spent in India. Much to my surprise, I discovered this little eatery only blocks from job!
The food, while not being as flavorful as other Indian restaurants, is tolerable for its price. However, as with another reviewer I did find myself falling ill on 2 occasions after eating there several weeks apart. This was especially strange because I have no history of becoming sick from food.
More disturbingly, the men working in and patronizing this spot don't seem to be especially respectful of women. Every time I visited, the employees and patrons would overtly ogle my body and make lurid comments about their admiration for my figure. I often feel that we as women are implicitly encouraged to tolerate sexual harassment. However, I choose to be one less. I'm no longer spending my hard-earned money in places where I'm not afforded the respect I'm entitled to because of my gender. And the food at Dil-e Punjab Deli is not impressive enough to challenge...
Read moreThis is a super popular and crowded place. It's not a sit down place, it's more like a takeout or stand there and eat. I go there with my colleagues and we either stand there and eat or take the food to the Highline and eat. The food is mind blowing, really authentic. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. They have many options to eat from, their Saag is just amazing. I always end my meal here with some masala chai and balushai (dessert). If you want to gave authentic North Indian food like the way it's cooked in the farms of India, this is your place to...
