I remember Docs when we moved to bedstuy years ago looking for a place to buy cakes for our baby shower. We walked in to this simple bakery not expecting much, got a few slices we were hooked. That was the beginning of our familyâs relationship with Docs. In the past I would have rated Docs 5 stars. Not anymore. My family began using them 5 years ago for a few events each year. Until this May we have never had any issues. In May I ordered a cake for my fiancĂ© and when I arrived to pick the cake up. The design that I sent over in the email was half way done. The manager worked with me to fix the issue and I agreed to pick up the redesigned cake the next day. I was pleased with the way it was handled. It was not the most convenient solution but Docs acknowledged the issue and worked with me. Fast forward to this past Saturday. My fiancĂ© ordered a cake for my daughter. When I arrived to pick the cake up the receptionist tried to give me a 6 inch cake that said âHappy Birthday Mamaâ. Then she brings out the cake that looks like what I pictured my fiancĂ© would order for my 13 year old daughter. I glanced at the size and style while she quickly boxed it up. I never had a reason to worry that they would give me the wrong cake. So being so quick to accept that it was the right cake this time was my mistake. When I get home we realize that the cake is someone elseâs (Glory). After calling over and over we finally get to someone who says that they accidentally made 3 cakes with my daughters name on it⊠Like what?? My daughters name is nowhere close to Glory so it still made no sense. Ten minutes later they call back letting us know that they will send the real cake in a taxi at their expense and pick up Gloryâs cake because Glory will need her cake. We are then baffled. I ask the companyâs rep if they are seriously going to pick a cake up that has been in my house open for hours at this point and give it to Glory as if this never happened. I told them how that is unsanitary and is making me question the integrity of Docs. For all I know our cake couldâve been elsewhere as well. Our cake was dropped off and about 40 mins later. A lady with blue contacts came to pick up Gloryâs cake. She did not say or do anything to change the negative thoughts that we now have about Docs. She scolded me saying next time make sure I read the invoice before accepting the cake. No apology, nothing. I let her know that I would still like a call from the manager. It is now eod Wednesday. I have not heard from a representative of Docs. I would love to continue to support Docs. They are black owned and have delicious cakes. But I fear that they canât meet the high demands of their business now. They run out of cakes quickly, they are making simple mistakes on custom orders, and quality service is not being given anymore. Two stars because their...
Read moreI received a promo the day before about cupcakes which I wanted to take advantage. I also wanted a couple slices and try out there banana pudding which I have yet to try. So I drove there expecting the pleasant service I am used to. Thereâs about two people ahead of me on line and Iâm looking around at the cupcakes they have on display while waiting. I see colors only because there are no labels. The cashier Iâm about to deal with is a short young lady wearing glasses. Strike 1: So when itâs my turn with the cashier, I ask what are the flavors you have exactly. She replies, âYou can see the three types of cupcakes we have right there. Vanilla, strawberry and red velvet.â I was taken back by the attitude and sarcasm in her tone, but I let it slide. I said I do see them, but I donât know what FLAVORS they are. Strike 2: I informed her that I want the cupcake promotion which is buy one six pack get another six pack free, a banana pudding and two slices of yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Immediately after I gave my order, she excused herself to the kitchen area. She returns about 30 seconds later to fulfill my order. I notice she placed two banana pudding up top. I stopped her and informed her that I requested one. She gives a rebuttal and said that I told her I wanted two banana puddings to which I had to correct her by reiterating I said one banana pudding and two slices of cake precisely. She did apologize for her mistake. Strike 3: I paid for my order and gathered my bag of treats from which she prepared for me. Subsequently I ran errands so I could not have caught this earlier. When I finally got home I noticed am missing a slice of cake. I looked in my car to make sure nothing was left behind and find nothing. I retrieved everything and was a few blocks enroute to return to Docâs and thought to myself why am I using up more gas and more of my time to deal with bad customer service again? Because I got priorities to deal with, I am taking the lost on this. No one should have to go through this experience. I do like Docâs Cake Shop, not only for their products but as a brand and what they represent to my community. So I am not putting this mishap on the establishment, I am putting it on that particular worker. To the managers/executives at Docs - please retrain that worker so that every customer can have a good experience in-store and not get robbed of their hard earned...
Read moreSorry but this is going to be a little long
I am very disappointed. I ordered a cake November 17th for a birthday party on December 11th (3 WEEKS IN ADVANCE) The cake that I ordered was a specialty cake with a photo. So, I emailed the photo, and I was told by the young lady who took my order that they received it (note: she was on her phone and when another customer came in, she took her order in the middle of her taking my order) On top of that I ordered 36 cupcakes which half were supposed to have photos on them (the same photo that was supposed to be on the cake) and the other half were just regular.
I arrive December 11th to pick up my order and a few things happen. 1, I gave them my name and they didn't have me in their system 2, I found my invoice in my email and the lady says they can't find it still in their system 3, finally, she tells me (after speaking to someone from the back) UNFORTUNATELY THEY DIDN'T HAVE MY CAKE.
I had to clean the wax out my ear because I didnât think she was talking to me (I was the only one in the store that day). I asked her what happened, and she couldnât give me a CLEAR ANSWER. So, I really didnât know what to say because I was in disbelief that this was happing to me. I said to her, what am I going to do? She proceeds to tell me; well, your cupcakes are here. And she brings out 12 cupcakes. I said, I didnât order 12 cupcakes I ordered 36. She says, oh the other ones were not made as well because it was specialty cupcakes to match the cake.
So, this is when I became LIVIDDDDD. I said, SO YOUâRE BASICALLY TELLING ME THAT I HAVE NOTHINGGGGGGG? all she could say was sorry. She then offered me a cake that was already made. What good would that do if I still must pay for it? The business made a huge mistake and they should take the fall. No one wants to hear, Iâm sorry on the day of a gathering when the order was made 3 weeks in advance.
Needless to say, I was sad and embarrassed because I had no cake for the guest to eat. Like I said, I will never be going back again. They are not the only cake shop...
