My GF and I made a reservation for a Saturday evening at 7:15pm knowing we had a show to get to that was about a 6 minute walk away at 9pm. Went there hoping for a "Chicago food experience" of deep dish pizza and Chicago style hot dogs (we had visited Chicago during the summer and wanted to recreate a good memory of the visit). The actual restaurant is small inside... 6 two person tables, approx 8 spots at the counter (there is also a tent outside). We were seated promptly and given a bottle of tap water and a couple plastic tumblers. My GF decided on a mushroom and basil 10" deep dish, while I was going to have a couple Chicago dogs, figuring I would also help her with her pizza. "No hot dogs... we're all out" says the waiter... I was stunned! Really? REALLY?? You advertise yourself at a Chicago hot dog place and you don't have them? On a Saturday night?? I could understand if we walked in right before closing, but it was early evening. Well, guess I'll order a pizza for myself. So our order was 2- 10" deep dish pizzas. Then we sat... and sat... and sat... (the music was overly loud and often profanity laced... while I am older, I am not afraid to swear when appropriate, but hearing the word "f*ck" constantly while eating out isn't the experience I was looking for). Finally after approximately 45 mins my pizza arrives... not my GF's, just mine. After another 10-12 mins we flag down our server and ask about her pizza... "let me go check" he says". After about another 10 min wait he brings her pizza... no apology or explanation. Her mushroom and basil pizza had maybe 3 of 4 pieces of mushroom in it and the basil looked like it was fresh picked off the plant and scattered across the top uncooked... we both like raw basil in a Caprese salad, but in a pizza it's supposed to be cooked. It gave every appearance of something last minute... and we both believe they completely forgot about her order until we asked, at which point they threw it together in a rush. As for the food itself, it was pretty good... tasty tomato sauce and abundant cheese oozing everywhere. But the experience as a whole with the loud, profane music, a staple menu item you boast about being unavailable, l-o-n-g wait for food (45 mins for me, over an hour for her) and the impression that they forgot her order, left us with a very poor impression and we most likely wouldn't go back... there are many, many other restaurants in the area to...
Read moreLet me start off by saying... I have nothing against Emmett’s and I’m sure the food and service is great. My personal “first time” experience was atrocious.
I am from The city of Chicago... Born and raised since 1980. I’ve been accustomed to the pizza and the quality in which it is made since I can remember, I and many other Chicagoan’s look forward to that standard and when it is not met, will will speak out on it. With that being said, let’s continue.
On April 14th 2019, 7:30-7:45pm EST. I walked in to pick up an order I had called in around 7:02pm EST, for a medium, sausage and garlic “Thin crust” Pizza, Chicago style. Chicago sty thin crust is thin but mot paper thin with a half inch outer crust or barely any outer crust. When I walked in to retrieve my order, I was excited and looking forward to the pizza. I was greeted and met by sever Kandice who charged my card, (I even gave an 18% tip).
She brings the pizza to me and it was burnt to a crisp on the edges to inward and looking like a Totino’s pizza from the freezer. I tell her, “This is too burnt.” She responds to me “This is how it comes. It’s in a 600 degree oven so it’s gonna look like that. I respond “Ma’am, I am from Chicago and there’s no “CHICAGO THIN CRUST” pizza that is burnt like this!” She then responds again “well I’ve been to Chicago and got a pizza just like that one.”
Needless to say, she was lying. I’m a native to the city and we don’t sell burnt pizzas. I let Kandice know this and she continued to try and make me accept bunt pizza instead of just remaking it, even on your photo’s the thin crust is not burnt so, I do not understand why she was trying to make me accept a burnt pizza that I spent my hard earned money on?
I asked for my money back and left. Her attitude was snooty and caddy to say the least and as a first time customer, I will not...
Read moreI’ve never experienced something like this and if you read any of my past reviews, i try to keep things objective.
I visited today for a takeout order (a deep dish pizza), there was a lady waiting in line in front of me, also for a take out order. This staff (who seems to be Hispanic male?) helped her out, then as he returned with her food, subsequently skipped me and went straight to help another couple who just arrived (a few minutes after me, waiting in line behind me, whom also seems Hispanic?). After seating the couple behind me, he returned, shuffled some papers, never acknowledged my presence, never made eye contact. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt, I waited for him to finish what he was doing, then he proceeded to just walk away. I’m thankful that another staff helped me out. I hope there’s an explanation to this encounter, I really can’t make sense of why this staff just pretended I didn’t exist, but at least in the moment, it definitely seemed intentional and possibly racially motivated. For context, I have not provoked this staff member, as a matter of fact, i never had a chance to have an interaction with him.
After reading some other reviews, seems like there is a staff member here that has received a few complaints… might be the same person. Do yourself a favor and take your business somewhere else, no amount of good food will make behaviors like...
